getting from japan to beijing
I need some advice on getting from Japan to Beijing as inexpensively as possible.
My partner and I are planning a trip over to japan/china and that is kind of the only question mark left. we really dont want to fly because flights are pricey and we feel like you miss out on a lot of awesome things when you just fly places.
any help/advice is much appreciated. thank you in advance!

I am not sure it is easily done truly cheaply but from Osaka there is a ferry to Shanghai (I still think this is about 250-300 USD now that the Yen is pretty strong). You might get lucky with a flight but I recall that being in the 600 US range which struck me as ridiculous. Let us know what you found.

I have a feeling it would be cheaper the other way around... =)
I would wait until you get in-country at any rate, local travel agencies are always cheaper, and if you're travelling now, this is low season anyway.

I flew from Tokyo into Shanghai the last time I was there but I had several flights grouped together so I can't be 100% on the price. Unfortunately I don't think there's a whole lot of great deals going in and out of Japan. It's a very expensive country to fly in and out of. So hopefully you can find an alternate route to shave some dollars.
If you do end up flying though I have a quick piece of advice about the Shanghai airport. If you've never been through there and your headed right into the city most directions will have you jump on their high speed Maglev train. Just keep in mind the time your arriving becuase I believe the last train runs at 9 or 10. If your later than that you have to jump on public transport or taxi and it's a good hour or more into the city compared to the 15-20 minute train ride. I found this out the hard way by myself.
Good luck.
