I'm leaving for Europe for a month on monday, and i've only been planning on brining one pair of shoes, but now i'm thinking i might need another. I have a pair of addidas clima cool running shoes that are pretty comfortable, the only problem is that they are far from dress shoes, will this be a problem with other people if i want to go to museums and churches? I'm bringing khakis and a shirt with a collar, but my shoes are silver and blue.

I'm also considering bringing a pair of sandals that i really like wearing and don't think i would mind walking long distances in, they won't take up much space in my backpack either.

Oddo - First off, welcome

Ok, you'll be totally fine with Adidas at churches and museums. The only time I've had to ditch mine if I was going to a club in Paris, or any club elsewhere with a "no trainers" door policy. Otherwise, you're totally fine.

I do recommend taking a pair of sandals or flip-flops. You never know when they'll come in handy, or if the hostel shower stall is just too nasty for bare feet!

Hi Oddo

I echo what Omisan said, you should be fine in churches and museums. As long as you look presentable (the khakis and nice shirt), the shoe situation should not be a problem. The only time you will have trouble with your footwear is if you are going to clubs, and in that case it is usually the more prestigious or popular clubs.

i went out and bought some shoes before anyone could reply. my dad wants me to have a dry pair of shoes to switch in to, so i capitalized on the situation and got some cheap k swiss that look nicer than the running shoes . I'm so excited, this is my first backpacking trip, i think its gonna be an awesome experience.

You're fine with just the Adidas shoes, unless you're really into clubbing...then you know what you should bring.

I'm going to agree with Tecia about bringing flip flops for the shower. There are some NASTY showers out there you wouldn't want to step a bare foot in!

As for musuems & churches sometimes they enforce a no shorts or sleevless shirts rule. So just a heads up for that.

p.s

Welcome to the Boards!!!
