First time backpacking

Hey everyone, i've just reacently decided to spend my savings on a trip to australia. Its all still just in the early stages and i think i'll have to save up a bit more money. I'm wanting to go to australia with a 3 moth visa and if i can find work extend it to a 1 year visa. My big concern is money, after flights i reckon i'll have about £2500 (thats $5500 canadian dollars, ive noticed there is alot of canadians on this board, i'm scottish myself) how long do you think that will last me without work? i want to go out and have a good time. plus have u ever heard of people going abrod and not finding work so thay had to come home, thats a big worry of mine.

I checked it out and your 2500P will fetch you some where in the area of 5800$ AUS. That is a sweet piece of change. And that should get you past 3 months and then some. As for your working visa, I am not sure how it works with UK, but Canadians have to have 5000$ to prove that they can support themselves before the visa is issued...you might wanna look into that. If that is the case, maybe apply for the visa before you leave, while you still have that kinda money, after 3 months you might not be able to show that you have the money to support yourself.

Thanks CD! thats just what i wanted to hear :D Your advice seems to be pretty valued on this message board.
I dont think its too hard for us brits to get a working visa in australia but i'm gonna preperly look into it soon. Ive done a couple years work in a kitchen and i'm hoping that will help me get a job. I'm lookin forward to my trip now and i hope it works out, 'tis the best idea i've had in a long time. Anyone else traveled the oz?
