HI TO EVERYONE, I'M OFF TO NEW ZEALAND IN ABOUT 6WKS AND I'M STOPPING OVER IN THAILAND. IS IT WORTH GOING TO THAILAND NOW THAT IT'S THE RAINY SEASON, AND IF SO WHERE AND WHAT IS A MUST TO SEE!
I''LL PROBABLY STAY IN THAILAND FOR ABOUT 3WKS, THEN TO NZ.
IS IT TRUE THAT SINCE THE TSUNAMI THE HOTEL PRICES HAVE DROPPED SO MUCH SO THAT YOU CAN GET INCREDIBLE DISCOUNTS ON ROOMS IN 3-5 STAR HOTELS.
WHEN IN NZ I'LL BE STAYING IN AUCKLAND FOR 3WKS THEN DOWN TO QUEENSTOWN FOR ABOUT 6WKS SKIING AND FUN. ANYONE INTERESTED IN MAYBE MEETING UP LET ME KNOW.

JIM.

Auggh...take off the caps lock!

Seriously, welcome to the Boards, Jim. I loved Thailand. When in Bangkok, you can get around quite a bit using the Chao Praya River Express. It's basically a river bus that stops all along at different points. The stops are very convenient for the temples and such. You can also hire a tuk-tuk for the day, and have him take you around to see what you want to.

As for day trips out of Bangkok, I thought Ayyuthaya was awesome, and another friend liked Lopburi. Lots of cool ruined temples from Thailand's medieval days...

(Ayyuthaya)
