hi,
thanks so much for this site and for all the good advice ... an awesome resource for us 1st timers.
i am heading over to europe in jun/jul/aug and am getting mixed messages about booking ahead .. i figured if you left a 2-3 day window .. ie booked 2-3 days ahead you will be assured of getting a bed notwithstanding that this is peak time .. is this assumption fair ?
is there anywhere that stands out eg greek isles as an example where it is peak time and i will battle to find something .. (i am trying not to plan too much and take it as it comes and enjoy it rather than stress over deadlines and booking everything)
thanks so much for the advice .. pretty daunting all this when viewed from little old oz.
cheers
drew

I'm w/CB on this....plus you only put down $2 or so a night for deposit, so if your plans change just call ahead of time(24hours) and cancel, no harm no foul. that way, you atleats have a bed to saty in if all hell breaks loose.

Even though I'm looking at a kind of wayward wandering trip, I am going to book my hostels in the big cities as soon as I know what's happening. Looks like I'll be in A-dam near the Pride Parade stuff and I'm sure the rooms sell out REALLY fast. I don't want to have to sleep on a bench.
Like people are saying, just cancel before the 24 hours and you ya just lose that small deposit. I think it's not a bad system.

I'm not booking anything, I know the places that i'm going, but i have no idea of dates. My plan is to just rock up to the cities that i want to go to, if i like it there i'll stay for a while, if not i'll just move on. So, i can't really book ahead. Is this something that i should be concerned about??
