hi there, folks. my name is matt, im 19, and i have traveling in my blood. lets see...after i graduate, i am packing up and traveling. i live in pennsylvania, and i plan to head over to cali, up to canada andmake my way back home from there.
i love being outdoors and hiking, camping all that stuff. thats a big part of what i plan on doing, as well as staying in hostels. i am currently working on getting a job in yellowstone and another state park so i can get some cash while on the road.
this seems a little disorganized and im sorry for that, haha.
anyway, im trying to say that if anyone has any tips for me, it would be beautiful. packing list, organizing skills, starting points for cash and the like.
why am i leaving? i happen to be in an introspective mood right now while my friends are all trashed and im left here all sober. im leaving because i have wanted to for a very long time now, and since i am graduating high school i can.
i dont like where my life is. i kickbox and i havbe lost the fire for it. my job sucks, my family sucks, my friends suck. im just not happy with where i am. so, when i leave, it will be a way for me to get out there. everyone else i see around me complains about how theyh wish they had moved somewhere fun, or traveled. anything like that. and i dont want to be a wisher, i want to up and leave. wander around. you all obviously knwo what im talking about.
so yeah, any tips- thank you very much!

Welcome Matt!!
You'll fit right in here, a lot of tpunks have a never ending wander lust. As for tips I'm not as seasoned as some of the members so I'll let them give you advice.
Other than that I live in Delaware - and New Jersey (for school), and me and some friends are going to the Catskills this spring break, you are welcome to join if you want. More the merrier - and more people to split gas with.

Well, I've read before that in some of the parks out West, you can rent one of those old forest fire watching towers they built way back when. They've renovated them for people to stay in, and other than the climb down to go to the can, well, there supposed to be gorgeous.
My only advice would be take the warnings about hiking seriously (tell the Ranger where you're going and when you should be back, take a compass, enough food and water, warm clothes, etc.). Cell phones aren't necessarily enough...most national parks don't have cel towers every couple miles. People who live in the area can tell you that rescues of stranded/lost hikers is a common thing. So, by all means GO hiking and enjoy nature. Just respect it.

As always my state sucks. I am proud to say as the only Delawarian on Travelpunk. And of course now I am stuck here for an extra day because of the snow.
