I love local meats - though I've eaten some pretty dubious critter parts in my time.
One nice thing about pasta - it travels well, it's cheap and with just a little bit of meat (cooked well, if you're worried) you can improvise an infinite number of dinners with it.
some easy pasta toppers
olive oil, garlic, olives
tomato, oregano, garlic (garlic goes well on everything)
Any cheese
Salt, pepper and fresh veggies
Add meat to that, and you can stretch a little pasta a long way (and without meat, it keeps pretty well for picnics)
For breakfast, I like to take some nuts, dried fruit and grains and boil them in milk with cinnamon - mmmm (you can also do this with granola)
On the move - cereal, nuts and fruit really travel well and you can't go wrong.
