Hi, I'm leaving for the UK and Irland at the end of April and returning at the end of May. I heard that the highest temperature reaches about 17 degrees celcius mid July and that it rains a lot.
I'm wondering how cold it will be during May? I don't know what clothes to pack. Should I only bring sweathers and pants? I went to western Europe last summer and it was one of the hottest summers recorded. I barely survived in shorts and t-shirts. Should I be packing any shorts and t-shirts on this trip?
I would appreciate any input because I really don't want to overpack.
Thank you so much for your time.

The weather in the UK seems to vary a fair amount depending on where in the country u r. When i was there 2 years ago in april/may it was t-shirt weather. I suggest bringing some cold outfits and some warm stuff, but i think you could safely skip the thermals (unless your going way up north where i haven't been), but bring a weatherproof jacket. (you can always put on a few layers if it gets too cold)
Cheers

Today in London I had a wifebeater, long sleeve, t shirt, jumper and very light jacket and beanie and was still a bit cold...the sun was very hardly out....I hope that it is going to get warmer!

What the hell is a wifebeater? lol...
Me, being from near London, I would personally wear jeans, t.shirt, jumper and take a jacket of some sort. It may not be cold, but when the wind picks up, or when your soaked through, you start to feel the cold. The weather here is mostly rainy, but is also very tempermental. But, just take warm clothes. Layers are always good. We only ever get like 3 days of really nice hot weather.....and then everyone talks about it all year round! ha ha

I was just there last week in a jean jacket and long sleeved shirt and jeans, with light scarf and hat and was fine. I would guess it will probably be alot better when you get there, as earlier that week there were 60-70 mph winds, which I have never experienced on earlier trips to England.
Hope that makes sense, I am still getting over jet lag and am too tired to reread what I wrote.

a wifebeater is those typical sleeveless white shirts that they always show guys wearing in movies when they beat their wives. Yeah... not the best description but I am at a loss for words

yeah a few years ago i travelled around the uk and ireland in april-may-june. I must say bring a fleece! I didn't realize how cold it would be! The wind was the worst and it get's right into your bones. I ended up have to buy a jacket in edinburgh because I was so cold. So make sure you bring some long sleeve shirts and a fleece. Even in june the wind still get's ya! I think i only wore shorts once or twice.
