ok, so i leave for europe in just 3 weeks, however, i have a problem. I have found that all of my time now consists of replanning, research and i have grown to spend a lot of time hanging around here. Now this doesn't sound too bad, but finals are only 2 weeks away, so now to my question: how do you survive the anticipation...i am definately struggling, so i wanted to just see how other people deal!

beergal 04-16-2006 11:00 AM

please dont talk to me about finals...i have 2 weeks left before mine start (may 16th is the last exam!) I haven been able to even start planning my trip away without the hassles of interviews for jobs, job applications and finding somewhere to live lol

annielee22 04-16-2006 11:07 AM

yeah, i know! at least others know my pain, finals kinda want to make me cry :crybaby: my last one is on may 4th, and i really don't want to take any of them...isn't there someway to go to europe and just bypass finals?

beergal 04-16-2006 11:16 AM

lol in my case its "isnt there someway to get out of europe and bypass exams"

thresheld 04-16-2006 12:47 PM

This is probably the worst suggestion ever, but you could try and look at it like your trip is a reward for you completing your finals.. I know the anticipation is killer, but you don't want to sacrifice performance in an exam!
You don't need to replan, your plans are perfect!
You could always focus your time differently. Study for an hour, freak about your trip (In a good way) for the next hour/halfhour whatever.. and back to studying.
I dunno, it's the best advice I can offer, sorry it's bad!

annielee22 04-16-2006 03:22 PM

Don't be so hard on yourself, the advice is good advice, the problem lies in putting it into practice. First of all, any advice is helpful, second it does make a lot of sense, so i'm gonna give it a shot!

futboller 04-16-2006 04:48 PM

I hear that, Annie! I've got 31 days till I fly out and 21 left of classes/exams. For me it's rough just trying to get work done instead of thinking about going, planning, spending time .. on... TPunk...

Where are you going again, Annie?

annielee22 04-16-2006 06:21 PM

well i start in paris, then i am going a couple of places in france, then to italy, hungary austria and end in the czech republic before heading over to england for a wedding!

23 days :mf_w00t2: !!!!!!!! where are you headed?

snowglida 04-16-2006 07:21 PM

I'm leaving on the 28th... 12 DAYS!!! Also, I have 3 finals this Tuesday!! The way I think about it is, 'work hard, play hard'. Work your ass off for now... and you'll be in Europe before you know it.

futboller 04-16-2006 08:16 PM

Dublin, Paris, Spain, southern France, Italy, Berlin. If we cross paths we should meet up!

annielee22 04-16-2006 08:44 PM

definately, i am actually hoping to meet some people from the boards on my journeys!

Echo Of Reason 04-16-2006 10:15 PM

I'm right there with you guys. I've got to finish finals up (May 11th) and then wait another few weeks before I actually leave. At the time I booked my flight I figured that it'd be best to move home for a few weeks and see the family before leaving for a year (stupid stupid). On top of all of that, my roommates who I am going to meet over there are leaving on friday so i'll have the whole place to myself for a month

On another note, it looks like I'm going to be traveling a similar path as futboller. I go
Dublin-> Spain->Amsterdam ->Berlin->Eastern Europe -> Italy ->Asia. Basically I'll be around europe from early june until around november.

annielee22 04-17-2006 12:11 AM

I just found out that after the wedding i'm going to go to amsterdam with my brother, so i get an extra little bit of travel before heading home, so i'll be there at the beginning of june

futboller 04-17-2006 11:35 AM

At least two of the three of us should get together.

Echo Of Reason 04-18-2006 07:48 AM

definitely, I think that would be pretty cool... however I don't leave till June (Ireland 1st-5th then spain), so I don't know where that would put you guys... After that most of my early plans are pretty flexible other than the running of the bulls, love parade and later on oktoberfest.

futboller 04-18-2006 07:59 AM

I'll (probably) be in the south of France by the time you make it to the continent, but my plans are flexible, too. I've been thinking about reordering somewhat, anyway.

annielee22 04-18-2006 11:08 AM

yeah, my plans are pretty flexible, not really knowing what to expect, i'll be around from may to june, so hopefully i can meet up with some people!

sarg123 04-18-2006 09:57 PM

While this may sound weird, I wish i was in your guys situations with finals still coming up. I finished mine last week and now I am home and working a horrible job for the next three weeks until I leave on my trip. I find that with finals looming the studying and the stress makes times past quickly, but now that I am home time is crawling at a painful pace.

jessie71685 04-20-2006 10:05 PM

reading all of your guys plans and ur anticipation and waiting for the days to pass is exactly what im going through....except im stuck at a crap serving job at an italian restaurant that i want to leave soo soo bad but i need that little extra bit of money that working this next month will get me...

i leave may 23rd!!! and im counting the hours...been saving up for this trip for almost 9 months now and since i bought my plane tickets and really stuck to a plan (kinda) its all i can think about!! i read travel books everyday...try to plan the cities im gonna visit or revisit...

so far i have somewhat of a plan so if any of you are gonna be around those areas i would love to get together!! i leave may 23rd from minneapolis to london then...

london-may24-29
paris-may 29-june 1 or 2
then south of france... Nice mainly but daytrips to revisit st tropez st maxine cannes and monaco
then hopefully a stop in the cinque terre for a night or 2
down to rome
rome to naples
naples to positano
positano to capri
capri to amalfi coast
amalfi coast to brindisi
brindisi ferry to the greek islands
and i fly out of rome july 24th

so i will be around europe for 63 days... think i can make all my stops? lol...seems like a lot to write down even!!

good luck with all you finals (i have horrible study habits and hated finals so i feel ur pain) just get through them and if we meet up in our travels ill buy ya a beer! hey thats motivation...lol..keep it in mind!!

good luck everyone and have amazing trips this summer!!

<3 jess

annielee22 04-22-2006 12:34 PM

wow, that trip sounds amazing, i know buying the plane ticket feeling, after that i knew i was hooked.

So i don't know if anyone else has experienced this....my friends are really sick of me talking about europe. Now, i know this is out of jealousy, but i find that this trip is now consuming most of my life...and i'm comfortable with that
