i am going to australia in may 2004 and have started checking out prices on flights... we are leaving from toronto and want to fly into somwehere up north.. we will be there for 7 months and plan on flying back home to toronto out of sydney... i found a flight that lets us do exactly this, fly into cairns and out of sydney, for $1715 cdn plus tax...
this seems liek a good deal to me, especially since we are not flying into and leaving out of the same city.. i was expecting to pay at least $2500..
any thoughts? is this good? we have to book it by Jan 19 to get this price...
thanks

I'm heading the opposite way in Feb and to give you an idea I have been quoted $AUS 1267 one way from Sydney to Athens via Bangkok on Thai Airways.
Thats the 2nd cheapest I could find, the other being $200 cheaper but going Sydney - Kuala Lumpur - Vienna - Athens on Austrian Airlines. I'm leaning towards the more direct flight at the moment.

yeah that seems like a good price.
i paid a bit over 2 grand for a one year open ticket (toronto-sydney-toronto with a week stopover in fiji) a couple years ago.
what airline is it?

I would say that that price is pretty much the norm Beeltree, I paid 1300$CDN or so for mine 2 years ago, but that was a very low price i was told, I have seen ads for as low as 900$ but the norm is about what you have paid I think...Dio just bought her ticket, I think the price was somewhat similar

Hey Montrealais, I looked around for flights when you are going and it almost looks as if your 1800$ is a good deal for that time of year??? It sounds so expencive though, I saw some flights for as much as 3500$$!!!! Did you try Priceline.com? There are a few members who have used that service and come out with pretty good deals??? Just a thought
And by the way.... To Travelpunk.com

Hey man'
Im going to oz myself in 2004 hoping to stay away for a year or so. I checked into flgihts and yeah the range you got is about right, the cheapest way apperently to go is on Japan Air, and then head out from Tokyo, however I being a first timer, dont think I wanna jump around in Tokyo international. So I think I might opt for a more direct flight to Melbourne, anyways, I should try to catch you for a beer

for Montrealais: the ticket is from TravelCUTS, student price.. i actuallt found a ticket to sydney with them for $1500 return so we might do that instead and take an oz experience flight/bus deal up north and start our trip there... so many options and so much we want to do!! our flight doesnt allow for a stopover in fiji though, so i am bummed about that

yeah I was quoted a price from travel cuts. It was from Vancouver to Sydney/Brisbane return for $1438. For each additional stopover it's $100. So I'm stopping in Fiji and New zealand. IF you want to make date changes to the ticket it will cost $50.
