hi im in oz at the minute. im plannin on leaving around april time and using the tax i've paid to fund a trip to nz on the way home. any pointers on how to claim the tax back before i leave. i cant be arsed using the companies such as taxback etc over here and was thinkin about using an accountant. any one have and recommendations or experiences with doing this

I buy turbotax every year from best buy and use it. works freakin great.

LOL Jake. TurboTax is specifically geared towards U.S. taxes.

Talk to an accountant and see what your options are. Beyond that I have no idea, as I've never even BEEN to Australia, let alone earned money there.

They don't have turbotax Australia edition?!?!

The tax year for Australian residents goes from July 1 - June 30. So you are not able to submit your tax return (as far as I know) until after June 30 each year.
Not sure what the deal is for foreigners tho.

I'm not sure of Australian regulations or what-have-you but every year I use one of the services provided on the IRS website. The usually run 10-20 dollars but they direct desposit it into your account. Usually with a few weeks, rather than waiting til next year to get it via snail mail.
