I don't have a cellphone, so don't expect me to sound all smart about 'em. I have no idea how they work, even here in humble North America. But I don't get it, you go overseas and can you bring your cell? Will it even work there (I mean, if your partner brings one too)? Cause that'd be pretty handy...
Aaaaand stundent passes. For plane ticket discounts, do you actually have to be enrolled in school to get em, or can you just be graduated and planning to go to Univ. *Sigh* I think I know the answer to that...AHH I NEED MONEY!

Maybe I'll take a boat. Some fishing boat or sumthin. Yea good plan

No, US cellphones won't work overseas. Unlike the rest of the world, who uses a global format, ours is different and only works Stateside. Yeah, cuz we're "above the law" and special (ie - stupid). For more examples, see Bush vs U.N. and the rest of the world.

I met 2 Swedish girls on the train in Beijing and they were using their cellphones from Sweden! But US phones?

Fugghedaboudit. GOD I "LOVE" THIS COUNTRY!

Yeah, and even if you could use your cell phone, why bring it, you would be so behind the times everyone would think you got that thing 2nd hand. The newer phones out of Asia are much better then anything in the Western Hemisphere. I agree with Voyd, I love my country, and its backward ass ways. Miles instead of Kilometers. Inches instead of Meters. Gallons instead of Litres. Its the American Way! :D

I think you can buy cell phones that you can use in both the US and the rest of the world. They are called 'Tri-Band" and cover the whole spectrum of frequencies. Not sure who makes them but I'd assume Nokia would have to be a player in these phones. Something to look into anyway.

it is true that we are behind as far as wireless capability, however we now have GSM phones (AT&T Wireless) that have a sim card and run on all frequencies

Gallon is how we american measure our milk and gasoline and water.
Our soda is in litres or ounces. LIke a 12 ounce can, a 20 ounce bottle (roughly 591mL), 1 litre bottle, and the 2 littre. Of course Coke now has the 1/2 litre bottles.
milk and other dairy can also come in half gallons, quarts, or pints (no not pints like an english pint of beer, ours are different), and half pints (a.k.a. cup).
Water, well water come in anything you want. Gallons, litres, quarts, it's messed up.
Beer in a store comes in 12 ounce cans or bottles, 22 ounce bottles, and 40 ounce bottles. Of course they brought back the oil cans of Fosters. I don't remember what those are. We don't even have a system. Someone just picks a random number and voila that's the new size. I mean really, what is 22 ounces? (83%bigger then the 12 oz and 45% smaller then the 40 oz)

No wonder people say America is so confusing. How do we ever learn all this shit as kids? :D

Almost pissed my pants that was friggen hilarious. Nooooo I have no idea how tall I am metric wise. I am 5'3" or 4" i dunno. Soda's in litres, beer is in millilitres, same with milk. Ounces...thats for like, measurements of chocolate chips in a bag. I think. Just thinking back to the last time I saw it....Yep.

We have 50 states, and Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia)... er.. uh... I am not from New Hampshire, I am from Michigan, Detroit to be exact. :D

I've never heard of Kelowna, but then again I've never looked much into British Columbia. (I wonder if that is the same columbia that our washington is from.

Kelowna's in the Okanagan...the southern interior of BC. We're close to Kamloops and Penticton, Vancouver's a ways away. Ummmm...I think Kelowna's only known for the Ogopogo (like the Loch Ness, but more serpent-like, and 100% tourist attraction with no underlying myth :D ) and just recently the fire. Yeah. Big city.

But hey! We have a yacht club!

In Greece, a friend had a cell phone, but was not able to take is messages because the instructions were in greek...Heheh! Make sure you get the english version...

Around here we still use foots to say how tall we are, but it's written in meters on our driver's liscence, so we need to know both! People that are over about 45 years old still think with the 'old' system, and we always get confused...My mom will say: this would be about 50 foot...This is 5 miles away...WHAT?!?!? Please convert in meters/kilometers!!! :D Hahah! In our cars, we read our speed in km/hour, but underneath the kilometers, there are the mile/hour, but smaller...So we know how fast to drive when we go in the US!
