Alright, after getting the idea that I should never leave anything valuable at the hostel when I'm not there, I have a question. When you're out at the clubs, what do you do with your day pack? I think it'd be a little strange to see someone out on the dance floor with a backpack on..haha.

Hostels sometimes have lockers for you or safes at the reception desk. You could leave your valuable there. Or you can just buy some good locks for you backpack and leave it in your room.
I do remember seeing someone dancing at clubs with a backpack on and I remember thinking how odd that looked (especially when his backpack would be hitting other clubbers)

You sure it wasn't some E'd up candy kid at a rave? They're fun to stomp on.

so far, every hostel i have been at has had lockers. The desk at one of them held stuff for the night too. Get a cable and lock though, they are priceless. You can wrap it through the zippers and if you get it wrapped well enough, no one will bother. I still have my money belt on me when i go out though, with passport, money and any little important documents. I don't want to risk that stuff.

I just bought a bag so shit no one even wanted to open it, although i always kept my money and doc's on me, also i used lockers when there where any. often i figgure if you put a lock on it just makes people think there is something worth nicking in side.

Well, your daypack just attach it to your backpack and leave it there, take your wallet with you like you would at home, put your camera in one of your pant pockets it should be small enough to fit, and your passport and any other documents are in your moneybelt which will be strapped to your body!. So if someone does root aorund in your pack and take something all they get are cloathes and maybe your pocketknife or something, I never had a problem with my crap getting stolen cause I never left anything worth stealing in my pack or laying around.

I have a PacSafe mesh that wraps around my pack and I just lock it to something imovable like a radiator.

Would any one recommend using a bike lock for when you leave your stuff in your room? If so, can you carry it on an airplane, or is it considered a weapon?
