Hey there-
Just a little FYI as I prep for Spain, and remember my other travels... the best advice I ever received (about what sort of things to bring) was to pack a pareo instead of a towel. It dries a helluva a lot faster, weighs nothing, and packs super small. Guys, you can easily find all black ones - and they are completely acceptable and widely used abroad! While they might not be a coveted asset in the states, I promise that you'll find other guys with them abroad. And girls - need I say - there are plenty out there. I have four! That go with everything (I use them as cover ups, towels, skirts, shawls on a chilly evening.....). They are an incredibly versitile piece!! Anyways, thats my 2 cents as I make my packing list. Hope it goes to some use! Cheers, Sherpette  |
Good tip Sherp!
I don´t have one, but it´s a damn good idea! I will put that tip up on the tips page sometime next week, when I get a chance ;) Is pareo what it is called or is it the brand? Anyone? hey, and if you have a packing list for me to update or to add to the "packing for girls" page that would be great. paz¬ TP |
Hmm, interesting tip...do they really pack small tho? They look kinda big & bulky.
And real men wear pareos too? |
sherp, is that like a sarong?

Aside from the obvious, 2 really useful small things u can bring are:
- tiny LED keychain flashlight - liquid-filled compass |
And don't forget your nail clipper!!!
I thought I didn't really need it (try to pack only the essentials) since I was "only" going to be gone for a summer. So I cut my toenails reeeaallllly short. Well I'll be damned they grew back so fast.I couldn't deal with my long toenails any longer (haha no pun intended) so I caved and had to buy some clips. hehe damn my toenails.. |
yech! i can't imagine trekking around with talons growing out of my toes!!! ^_^ , i'll be sure to put a specail note on "nail clippers". although, will i have any problems taking them on the plain with my carry-on? i don't want to have to check any luggage. i know it sounds like a silly questions, but airport security is quite intense at the moment!

Hahaha  Good stuff, Diorama! I too had some thick biscuits on my big toes and after successfully inserting holes through a couple of pairs of good socks, I had to break down and purchase some clippers to whack them suckas off :D
Back in the day, two weeks after the Sept 11 incident, my friend got her nail clippers taken away by airport security. However, I think now they allow them for you to take on board with your carry-on luggage. I can't verify that, but I think I heard that on the local news a while back. Here's a site that has a break down on what NOT to bring on board an airplane with your carry-on bags- http://www.airsafe.com/danger.htm Voyd, I couldn't agree with you more on those two essential travel items. -the LED keychain light is much stronger that a flashlight and is tiny! I actually used it this whole last year in Spain and especially for some FX lighting on a couple of scenes in the digital film I shot there(when you view the trailer, the blue lighting is from the keychain). Here's an example of an LED keychain light that I have- LED light a keychain in "action." You can probably find this or any variation of it at any local surplus or sporting goods store. -a compass is extemely helpful, especially in Europe as their streets are all over the place! They don't have "blocks" like we're used to in N. America. It's very easy to get lost, so if you know how to use a compass, you'll get a lot of serious mileage with it B) . Thanks for the tips folks! |
