I'm going over to Solvakia to meet a friend and i was going to bring him over a few cans of Bulmers Irish cider, I'm sure he misses it terribly. I'll be bringing my backpack and sticking maybe 12 cans in it, I'll be cheaking it in at the airport so it'll be in the cargo place. Would ordinary drinks cans explode down there? The only other option I have is 2 litre bottles but they won't taste as nice.

The bins on our aircraft are pressurized, but not necessarily heated. Air circulates from various portions of the plane, which keeps it from getting to cold, but there are no heaters actually in the bin. So, there is a chance it may freeze, but really no chance of it depressurizing/exploding. One sneaky way to find out about the bin heating or pressurization is to see if the airline will allows pets to be shipped in the bin. If they do, you know it's heated. If they don't, they may not be heated.

Freezing wouldn't be too bad as long as they don't burst because of it, it's supposed to be served on ice anyway. I'll just chance me arm and hope for the best, it wouldn't be the first time my colths stank from being soaked in cider.

I wonder would those freezer bags you can get at supermarkets keep the cold out enough to keep them from freezing completely?

They definitly would! And it would protect your stuff as well!

Just remember how many people use aerosol deoderants and take those with them. Wouldn't make much sense for the airlines to allow them on board if there was any chance they would explode and damage the aircraft. But putting the cans inside some kind of cooler would be a smart idea.

I usually just transport the stuff in my belly.

It's a bit warm when I serve it up for friends, but oh well!
