Hey everyone I'm always on the road in the U.S. traveling for my work. Often it's just me and a rental car and my cell phone, and while searching out a particular address for the nearest local customer (happens pretty often) I'm usually stuck with calling directory assistance to get the number. This was all well and good back when d.a. in the u.s. was free, but for a few years now I've been paying at least fifty bucks per month in d.a. charges. This too was all well and good while my employer was reimbursing me, but now that he has to cut back I'm stuck with the charges. It's not so good to stop at convenience stores 8 times per day to ask to use their phone books -- where did all the pay phones with phone books go? -- so does anyone have any other slices of advice to help me work around this new, sudden expense?

Thanks,
Tom

That sux that you get all those charges, here is example of what I think might help you.

Busines Directory on CD/DVD

Maybe not this specific one, but there are a few available for business and resudential use.

Hope that helps you some!!!

And WELCOME to the boards!!!

Maybe its to obvious, but couldn't you just google the businesses you are looking for. Usually a local business yellow pages will pop up with what you need. Good luck. And what about onstar?

Onstar would be good as well if you could score a package with them for a good price.

You could also get GPS. Googling or mapquesting before hand will also work. I used to be an on-call computer tech in Atlanta and they always gave me the address and mapquest map (sometimes google maps are WAY off).

And welcome!

If you can't shell out for a PDA or onstar or a laptop with wifi, you can just keep using directory assistance -- the free kind, that is. 1800free411 is, as its name suggests, free. Plus it connects with the national database so the info is the same as regular 411. Maybe this will help until you do get some of the above tech toys.
