Hi All!
My name’s Chris and I’m a first time traveller, I have a few (lots) of questions for all you seasoned professional backpackers out there. Be patient, this may be a long one depending or whether or not my boss catches me Tee Hee.
I've put this in general as it covers a wide range of topics, hope this is right!
I’m looking to go travelling sometime in the spring, starting in NZ/OZ and moving around that area (South Pacific Islands), working farm hand or fruit picking jobs as my main source of income. My job doesn’t pay much at the moment, so I will only have my start up fees (airfare, initial hostel cost until settled with job, sustenance, and visa), so I’m hoping to jump from place to place working as I go, in six month blocks (is the plan) and saving for the next adventure as I go.
As for companion, my best mate has promised to come with, though this was during a pretty heavy drinking session involving a “Keep Left” sign, a bollard, a Canal Boat and us singing “Barbie Girl” butt naked at 3am…
So it’s either as a pair, or on my own.
I want to stress right now that we are STUNNINGLY under funded. Cash is very tight and by April time I will only really have saved £1500/£2000, so getting a job ASAP in OZ/NZ is paramount, would like to have it secured BEFORE travelling if at all possible.
So down to business.
I’d definitely like to be in a very physical job, farm hand or fruit picking so I can see a bit of the countryside and lose a bit of weight. I’d rather staple my balls to my thighs than work in an office again, so no suggestions there please!
Any advice would be brilliant; including how to get the job, whether the plan is viable, how to hop around diff countries working, how easy it is to get a farm hand/fruit job, etc etc….
Also, if (I highly doubt it) anybody has any ideas I can get over there quicker (on an even smaller budget) that would be brilliant.
Cheers people and thanks in advance for the replies,
Chris x
