I haven't stayed in hostels before, so I thought I'd throw this question out there-- is smoking (cigarettes) common in dorm rooms? I can handle smoky bars, at least for a certain amount of time, but I'm not sure that I'd be cool with a smoky sleeping area.
I don't know what made me think of this. I'll be staying in hostels in England, Scotland, France, Rome, and possibly Bavaria & Prague.
I am a smoker, and I take no offence to this question, to be comletely honest, I would not want smoking in my room either.
I have NEVER heard of a hostel that lets smoking in the rooms, not only does it limit the people they can put in those rooms ( allegys and non smokers), but I bet its a safety violation almost anywhere. So I would have to say, don't worry about it, most hostels have smoking areas, or a bar that is in the or attached to the hostel.
thanks for the welcome, canadian dude. I think I read something about that or I heard about it from another traveler. Guess it was a fairly isolated incident.
