I live in the liveliest part of Madrid and there is ALWAYS a festive atmosphere ALMOST EVERY NIGHT OF THE YEAR. It is filled with bars, restaurants, and clubs, so the foot traffic walking up and down my street is constant every hour of the day. When the clubs and bars close, they just hang out in droves in the plazas and the streets (called botellon), more so in the spring and summer than fall and winter, but still always busy on the streets.

Having said, it does get old too. Can't party every night!

I would just find a way to stay extremely busy. You might want to consider doing some sort of internet project/blog to keep you busy during the hours that you're now working. It certainly keeps me busy!

7 months now... I love Belgium, its just that Brussels, well, everyone just seems miserable and unhappy... Thats the hard part for me... This is such a different city from others in Europe I have visited and spent time it. Because of the E.U., Nato, the U.N. and misc others being headquarted here, its a super transient town and you can actually feel that fact. Not sure how to describe it but you can. I think it also takes a lot away from the Belgian culture, as Belgians are the minority in Brussels, thus like I actually really like the rest of Belgium, especially Flanders!... And this gray rainy weather everyday... I do enjoy it to the best of my abilities, but its still not that Central American life I had!
So luckily I will only be here for 1-2 more years, and I will be thankful for the chance to live and experience Brussels and the rest of Belgium, but I just wouldnt choose to stay here long term...
Jealous of your Neighborhood Godfather!!!!
Cheers

Just think you don't get snow every day with temperatures in the single digits Fahrenheit like Michigan.

Bide your time and you will get something better.
