Well, from what I can see, the line went to about 4-5 deep instead of the normal 10 like you said.
It looks like they did that right at that part of the track because they all may have wanted to get close enough to the side to see the president up close.
Just a thought. Thanks for posting and nice bag of crickets !

If you missed the opening ceremonies like I did, you can catch all of the clips here.
I'm still watching it and it is spectacular. It's like watching a mega cirque du soliel show.
8 clips total.

The olympics have been great so far. I've never gotten into them before, but I've been glued to my tv these past 2 days.

I love the Olympics. Every four years the world's attention is focused on a single event and humanity can get along for 17 days (the Georgia flareup notwithstanding). It makes you wonder why we can't do it more often

all I know is NBC's schedule of events is all assed up. it said gymnastics was going to be on today at 8am, 1pm, 4pm, and like 7pm, and I sat there for 3 hours waiting for it to come on and instead was disappointed with women's cycling and water polo. BOO!
come to find out, I checked out the USA gymnastics website for the REAL deal... the team qualifications for women is on tonight from 7pm to 12am.
For anyone in the US who's following the gymnastics (men or women's) here's a good schedule for the whole she-bang.

Yep, I've been an olympic addicted dork since I was a young one. Still don't know how I feel about the change to the every 2 year format between summer and winter.....

This is the first time I am actually following the Olympics and I must say it's just incredible the amount of work and dedication these athletes have. I was watching the women's diving and gymnastics today and I was baffled at the amount of skill it takes to do those routines. I am looking forward to following the sports this year. About time I'd say... I've been missing out on some fantastic sportsmanship!

i watched the gymnastics yesterday and couldn't believe there was a female athlete competing at the age of 33! i thought that was incredible, particularly for a sport that takes such a toll on the body.

i think the guy who co-ordinated the sydney olympics opening ceremony also had a part in orchestrating the beijing one. maybe london could employ him too!

Where are you looking? I had written down the schedule off nbcolympics.com and I had Beach Volleyball and Cycling for the daytime with gynmastics and swimming at night.
I also liked the synchronized diving, kind of a neat event and it was nice and short too. That men's relay swim was so exciting to cap off the night. I watched a little bit of the USA women's fencing since they won all three medals in the saber event, it was kind of entertaining but really hard to understand (it wasn't televised but you could watch video online, with no commentary). I could see that being a fun sport to play and watch if I knew what the hell was going on.

Did you guys see that win USA had over France in the mens swim team finals?!? INCREDIBLE!!! I'll tell ya that was an intense moment in this household!! I guess that little comment about crushing us just gave the team that little extra push they needed....
GO TEAM!!!!

You're welcome Jilly !
I hear ya, AK, I just watched the mens swimming online myself and that was intense! Crushing the French was sweet, considering the crap they were dishing
Watch all the clips of every sport here
Also, apparently the some of the opening fireworks were fake, computer enhanced.

The swim relay last night was absolutely insane. My old roommate, who is a coach of swimming at the high school level said he'd never seen anything like it. I was cheering like it was a Green Bay Packer victory haha. What an emotional victory for team USA!
