In fact, when I try to pay attention and use some sort of logic I lose my shirt.* Then when I just sort of do whatever comes to mind and drink my beers I win.*

Of course you win darling, sitting there without your shirt you would be a distraction to even the toughest of poker players!

My buddy's g/f does that. Although I don't know how much of it is a ploy and how much is real. But when we went out to Peoria, Ill in March she won a 30 or so person tourney by playing the dumb blonde. She got like $350. In Vegas she played a guy really well... there were three 8's on the board. She had bet the flop, and the other guy raised. She bet the turn and the other guy raised. the 3rd 8 showed up on the river. She checked, he bet. She says, "Hmmm.. I wonder if you have the 4th 8... (thinks for a minute).. no I don't think you do." and raises him, he re-raises and she re-raises and he calls. She turned over the 4th 8. It was pretty funny.

Actually to correct that story

The person with JJ was under the gun and just called, I doubled it to 40, everyone behind me folds, except rob, both blinds fold.
Rob called with 8-2, JJ then raised me to 80, I reraise to 120, rob bumps it another 60 to 180,
JJ thinks about it for a while then pushes all in. I decided to fold the 7-5 rob donates

JJ ends up winning because I folded, but actually thought he lost because I turned my cards over after laughing about it.

The poor guy was lost for days afterwards. But then again I've messed with peoples heads by folding poket Aces just for the sake of doing it. and raising with 7-2 off.

Poker?* Did I hear poker mentioned?* I won a whole $20 tonight playing poker.* I did terrible in our $20 league game, lost a $5 game, then won the 2nd $5 game and came in 2nd in our $10 tourney.*

Alright, poker is not just the cards.* A lot of it is intuition and reading your opponent.* it's not a matter of pocket Aces are good and should win.*

Funny story, we were playing our weekly tourney.* I call with 8-2 offsuit, the guy 2 to my left (#3) raises with pocket Jacks, the guy just before me (#1) re-raises to try and put pressure on #3 to see if he actually has a hand, well I re-raise and #3 seriously contemplated for a long time folding his Jacks but ended up going all-in, I decided to donate and called him.* His jacks held up, just barely.* He was furious about it, because my 8-2 off suit and my buddies 7-5 off suit almost got him to fold Jacks.*

When you play low limit games (i.e. 2/4, 3/6) remember that your hand isn't always that good.* With the limited betting increments it is easy for people to call down and catch their draws.* However I did notice playing at the MGM in Vegas that they actually repsected raises.* It was quite the relief over Detroit casinos or even the Horseshoe in Vegas where people will call with anything.*

since it isn't travel related I will plug my site, if anyone cares to discuss cards we do have a message board there.* Where people will love to discuss the finer things poker, and poker related.*

Good job Jake, and if you are ever in Detroit, you can join our local game.*

As far as check-raising, it can be a deviant tool.* It can depend on your opponent.* As far as showing your hands, I usually only show my hand if i have enough respect for the player that I feel they can get a free look at my cards.* People who show me hands usually show me the fact they are trying to earn respect or build that confidence just so they can bluff.* Which can turn very ugly for those people when they go for a grade A bluff and get caught with their pants down.

I prefer 7 card stud,

As far as hold em, I have a preference towards no limit, the term back in a flash tends to apply here a little better. Unfortunatley when playing no limit, you can still run into the people that will call for the sake of calling, when this happens it can be costly.

low limit is more of a gamble and pray type game than a skill type game, the trick to making money in low limit, is maximizing your edge. its best to know the odds on your cards vs pot odds, in low limit its best to use theories like implied odds (how much money will be put into the pot after this round).

Both games require you to pay attention to the other players, always look for tells, even when you are not in the hand. Table image can be helpful if people think you are a loose player you are likely to get more action. If they think you are tight, they will more than likely fold to you when you bet (unless they are holding monsters)

Depending on the person or people I am playing, determins if I show my cards when everyone folds. Sometimes its good to show a loosing hand, sometimes its good to get caught bluffing.

I had a guy in vegas fold poket 10's to me in a tournament, he thought about it really hard, and finally folded, after he folded I showed him my monster of a hand 8-3 offsuit. The guy was so rattled after he ended up tilting. He called down and doubled up 2 other people shortly after, then called me when I actually did have a hand. The end results the big stack at the table was so rattled by this that he completely fell apart. Had I just folded the hand, he would have continued to assume he made the right decision, and would have stayed on his game.

Thats just some of my poker ramblings.

I hope you dont mind
