POI!!

I've wanted to learn to do this for sooo long. I've been reading about the history of it (not really outlined, only slightly mentioned at that link). It's extremely important to me, when I start learning something new, to know where it comes from and why. And to also represent it as authentically as possible while infusing elements of my own personality too. This is probably most apparent in my dance "training", if you can call it that. There is still way more to learn, but I feel like I have a good solid base knowledge of the history and traditions (and do's and don'ts) of Middle Eastern, Persian and North African dance. And the Americanized versions of all three, mostly Middle Eastern. [Next up is classical Indian dance such as Odissi/Orissi, Giddha, Filmi, and Bhangra... but that's another story.]

So yeah, I wanna spin fire. Maori culture fascinates me anyway, but this just plain looks like fun (the fire part isn't really Maori but it's a fun addition).

Hell, the furniture painting was a whim, I didn't research it or take any classes or anything-- one day I was bored and just decided to try it. So there you go. The style and designs are simply part of my vocabulary... that's the best way to describe it. *shrug* I did have previous artistic "training", I guess, which helps a bit for figuring out the technical side of creating things. Also I grew up with parents and grandparents who were skilled home improvement do-it-yourselfers (example: Dad thinks pouring concrete and replacing subflooring and drywall is a good way for the family to spend some time relaxing, lol). Putting things together and/or taking them apart and refinishing them is easy for me.

Sounds like here, me and my dad have been doing that at my house all week. He loves it though, gives him a place to hide I think.
