Been married coming up on 11 years, lived in 11 different homes thus far, and moving to the 12th next month. I get that total nesting instinct and would love to live somewhere and plant a garden some day, but it's going to be down the road a bit. We dragged a 400 lb., 30 year old inherited orange/brown/yellow plaid sofa bed around for the first 7 years of our marriage (it was delightful!) but when it finally bit the dust in Japan, we were delighted to find a new one in the AS-IS section of IKEA in our (then) new home.
We realized that we are finally going to have to buy our kids beds this year, and were thrilled to find out that there's an IKEA near our new home. We have some antiques and some good quality wooden furniture, but with all the kids we have and all the moves we make, we prefer to pick stuff that'll last for the medium term but if it gets beat up in transit or under fire from the kids, we won't be devastated.
So I guess I'll have to live with the stigma of not being a "true backpacker"
Although, if we buy pine loft beds, can I still play?
