Default Southern Cali Tpunks, Need your Advice

Alright, as a lot of you know, Rox and I are supposed to be moving to San Diego in the early spring. But now with the devastation from the wildfires, we are worried. We will be flying into SD in Dec. to check things out, but we want you guys opinion. Is SD going to recover quickly? Or are things just really bad, and only time will tell on recovery. As soon as I heard a "worse than New Orleans Katrina" reference, I started to worry! Any thoughts or whatever are Greatly appreciated, as Rox and I are now finding ourselves quite worried about relocating there, and may have to start working on a backpocket plan!!! BUT, we do NOT want to change plans, SD is the choice destination.

Worse than Katrina? I can't see how. I saw an estimate of ~1500 homes destroyed and 1.5 billion in damages for California. Wikipedia says that Katrina caused over $86 billion in damage.

I don't think its really a big deal in the long run unless your house was one of the ones destroyed...very disruptive while going on, but the long term impact shouldn't be too bad.

Of course I live 2000 miles away so I don't mean to be dismissive of what those in California have gone through, I just think that the recovery will be fast and smooth.

Yeah, we actually just got of the phone with a friend in Pacific Beach, and she said that things were def. crazy for a time, but that everyone pitched in and helped each other "Look Out"!!!! As for the long term effect, we didn't think that there would be any issues, but when you are getting ready to load a truck and move cross country to a city that has been on the news BIG time, it will make you think. Theres a prime example of american media making things look worse than they are!!!!
So we are starting to feel better about it. Of course bad for the ones affected, but comfortable with us moving there in late March.
If anyone has any other first hand accounts or thoughts, please share them with us, as of course we are a bit nervous about it now.
