Default Need a bit of help

Quick question that I feel some people on here might have experience with.
I have been in Scotland since early July and will be leaving to go to England to live with a family and be a "tennis au pair" starting in early September. The England job is supposed to be for a 6 month period.

Being an American, I am only allowed to be in the country for up to 6 months as a tourist (and not working, but we're working it out under the table). So, since I have already been in the UK for 2 months prior to starting in England what do I need to do? Should I just go and stay in the country illegally? Would I be able to leave the UK for a week and come back and restart the 6 months...I'm not sure how it all works... Should I just go through BUNAC and get proper documentation and is that possible since I am already in the UK?

Just some questions that I hope someone out there has some idea about... I'd really appreciate some help here!
Thanks loads

Well, the gov site is pretty clear that "those who plan on staying longer than 6 months" should obtain the proper visa BEFORE they left the US.

I think that you can go for 6 months out of a 12 month period.

But hey, I'm not one to talk. I've done some overstaying myself without proper visas and all was well.

But times have changed thats for sure...Welcome Homeland Security

I'm not sure how the EU works, but I know for a lot of countries such as South Africa, you can just pop out of the country for a weekend or something then go right back in & it counts as a new entry. As long as you have some sort of proof that you've left you'll probably be ok....

Can't speak for what the EU authorities will do, but they can't deny an American citizen entry back into the country, so you may catch hell but you can get home ok.
