I presume you'd go to the train station and ask to reserve a seat? I've never used a eurail pass before but this is how I reserved a seat for an open ticket I'd already purchased.

I always showed up at the train station a day or 2 before leaving and made the res. I also have made the res. on line before.

To the best of my knowledge you gotta do it in person. Whenever I arrived in a city during my last trip, I always reserved a spot for a train a few days later. It always worked.

I would only book online for high speed trains, such as Thalys, who require a reservation no matter what, and for any popular routes during peek travel season. Buying online can cost you double plus shipping sometimes. On my last trip, I made Thalys res's, but no others. Heres a link that can help you.

yeah me too, for all the other ones i went to the station the day before or of, and booked it in person. booking stuff like that online still doesn't sit right with me, i'd much rather speak to a real person and get a paper receipt/ticket from them so i know that i have it for sure.
