We have an unidentified large metal box that mysteriously showed up in the bottom of one of the stairwells here at the hotel. It was put there less than 2 hours ago. We're waiting for the fuzz to get here and (hopefully) tell us it's just a box with something harmless in it like, say, an illicit porn collection. But if not, it's evacuation city... the damn thing isn't ticking, as far as I know!
Either way, my bag is nearby and I'm somewhat concerned about how close my car is parked to the building. Evacuation is a very real possibility. We have a poor high school girl here observing hotel admin office life for a school project, haha. She'll have a story at least.
Stay tuned...

Be careful - it could also be a bi0attack. If we're throwing out possibilities here...
Or just someone's adult toy collection?

False alarm, sorta. It was a big box with a safe inside of it that had been ripped open and junked. Someone reported it stolen yesterday and the coppers are doing fingerprints on it as we speak.
Sigh of relief, my car won't be blown to bits!!

I bet the cops took the porn during their "investigation" :D
I had a couple of those at my last job...not fun. Especially when you work on the 10th floor...
Then again, the italians had their embassy on the 21st floor...so they were really screwed if something happened
Good to hear yer alright

That is a rather bizarre story, I want to hear more. So, some burglars stole a safe from somewhere, broke into it, then put it inside a large metal box and dumped it in your hotel stairwell??? That seems like an odd place to dump a safe that had been stolen. There must have been people all over to see them carry in a large metal box??? Interesting...........

^ It was a small, in-home safe-- maybe about the size of a large CRT computer monitor?-- inside some sort of footlocker type trunk. Anyway, the stairwells here at the hotel are in the far corners of the building, way the hell and gone from the elevators-- no one uses them. The box was dumped in the stairwell next to the restaurant and there's a door right there to the parking lot. It's locked from the outside but it would be easy for someone to stroll through the front door of the hotel, walk over there, open it up for someone else and bring the damn thing in. Hotels are, as I'm sure you can imagine, very busy places. Lots of different people are coming and going constantly dragging all kinds of crap in and out. Especially here, we have a LOT of meetings during the day, lots of people wandering around. So it's not extraordinarily shocking that this happened, but it's unnerving to say the least!
Apparently the safe was stolen from someone's home. I don't know what the contents were but a lot was left behind.
