You can bring booze on the plane, but you're not supposed to consume your own booze onboard.
'Course, that's never stopped me from pre-mixing bourbon and coke (mostly bourbon) into plastic coke bottles and bringing a few along for the flight. Not that I would ever condone such behavior for others...

I carried some mini bottles in my purse and got a soda and then just mixed them. Some guy was drinking a bottle of wine on the plane, so I'm not sure how stringent the rules are. Might want to go to the carriers site and find out, but I was sneaky about my drinking and didn't get caught.

The answer (in the states) is officially 'no'
two reasons,
1) the airlines sell booze, and want to capture that revenue from you on the flight
2) the airlines dislike drunk and unruly passengers, so if you're drinking your own, they have a hard time controlling how much you drink...
given that... the coke bottle thing has worked for me in the past....

I just got back from a trip to Acapulco, though flying to Mexico City, on a United flight, and they kept giving us free booze cuz we asked nicely-so don't overlook that option!
On the note of Acapulco, along the main strip there's a water fountain in one of the traffic circles-follow the road from there away from the strip and a couple blocks up theres a little restaurant called Las Nopaleros, or something along those lines. Awesome place, only go if Armando is working, you'll get a LOT of free tequila. The food is priced for locals, and really good. Enjoy Acapulco, I sure as hell did!

They are usually used to this kinda stuff on the vacation charters...If they see you mixing your own drink, my guess is that they would look the other way. Although I do think its hilarious!!

Now, when you talk about bringing booze on the plane, are you speaking about bringing it in your carryon luggage or your checked baggage?
You can certainly put it in your checked baggage. As for bringing it into the cabin, it is indeed "against the law" to drink your own intoxicants during a flight. However, it's not completely forbidden to simply transport the bottles via the cabin - otherwise, every flight I've taken to Canada would have gotten me in trouble cause I buy duty-free every time I go there.

When I went to China a bought a normal sized bottle of whisky and no noticed. I even drank it on the plane using a plastic cup. Of course, I kept it hidden and the plane was dark.

Why would you consume your own on an international flight (china) when the airline gives it to you free?
I never have more than a few drinks on any given flight. For one, I cant smoke and I hate drinking with no smokes. The other, you get way drunker way quicker in a plane. I threw up all over a bathroom on a flight to london. Red wine puke over every surface. And I was hungover and jetlagged for three days. I just dont think its worth it.

Oh, I consumed the free stuff too bactually the first thing I did after take was get a beer but the dude only comes round every so often.
I would never drink enough to get drunk-never been drunk actually, but a little drink sure helps someone who hates flying.

First time i came back from Prague I was with czech airlines - me and this random guy got hammered on about 4 or 5 small cans of beer. After we were cheeky and ask for a second one each we realised if we just kept asking theyd give us another one. If if i was going to get drunk on a plane again id do it on the way home, dont have to worry about dealing with foriegn police or passport control and you wont waste ytour first days away hungover.
