Just so you know, Ukraine soldiers dont like it when you take pictures of their signs at the border lol.
I saw a sign that was in english, and I love taking pictures of signs that are spelt incorrectly or have a different meaning in english. hey some people like stamps i like poor spelling.
So anyways the sign read : Outside of entrencies is prohibt
being on a bus filled with poles i decided to take out my digital camera and take a photo.
Well Mr. Ukraine army boots saw the flash and came on the bus right away. Starts yelling at me. Of course I dont speal ukraine, or polish, or russian. So I am lost as to what he wants. A translator told me he wants my film. I explained its a digital camera, no film! The guard didnt understand and tried taking my camera. Ummmm No! Ive got 500 pictures on there you aint taking it! So I showed him step by step of me deleting it and having the translator explain. he seemed satisfied. Damn I wish I had that picture to show you!  
man what a trip!

Ahhh, gotta learn to make a custom setting to take lower-light photos without the flash... 
It's a must-do for all stealth situations.
It seems to follow in all countries, though - military folks really don't like it when you take pictures of their property/signs. I took a photo of a sign at an Australian naval base that I thought was a bit amusing, and a guy came up and checked me out to see if I was doing recon work. Damn swarthy bastard that I am....

^ not just the military.. some 12 yr old kid who liked trains and taking pictures of them as they went past at train stations got told by staff he wasnt allowed to and had to write a letter to seek permission

I almost got reduced in rank for taking a photo of a sign that says "Photography Prohibited"
The fact is, they really can't tell what you're photographing, and why, and since guard posts (border crossings, security checkpoints etc) are generally targets for various reasons, soldiers are rightfully antsy when you take pictures of em...
other than that, learn how to turn the flash off...
