When a shitty song gets you nostalgic for the good times you had overseas just because that was where you first heard it.

When I was Eastern Europe, I heard A New Day Has Come from Celine Dion (whom I detest !) all the time, even in remote romanian villages. Then I was thinking, «where on Earth do I need to go to not hear her anymore ?!».

But now, I get all mellow and nostalgic when it plays, and I can't get enough of it !

I am dealing with this exact issue right now. In fact I just got back from lunch in which it was dealt with.

This one is particularly true for me. Plus the one about spending saving money on booze.

are you talking about the old world style map with the brown water and look old style but is up to date?* cause that one is awesome

I own that map and pin the places I have been on it. Quite nice at only 6 dollars.

My turn:

- When you refuse to drink american beer beacause it tastes like shit compared to the 50 cent beer you had in Eastern Europe

- When you refuse to even consider dating or even talking to an American girl because you know she wants your money (ok maybe that is just me)

- When you hate every breathing second in your own home because you know you have so much more to see in the world

- When you max out credit cards to continue travel

- When you break up with an 18 month self-centered girlfriend that refuses to travel with you (ok that was pretty damn specific)

- When you cry because you go back home and really do not want to...

You own more travel guides and phrase books then other books

- When you lend a travel guide out and get angry when it doesn't come back to you promptly enough

- When you have more notes, highlighted sections, slips of paper, and 'dog ears' in a travel guide then your text books

- When the smell of a certain type of cooking can take you back to a great trip

- When you can identify stains on your backpack with the train stations you spilled stuff in

- When you have travel items 'staged' in your pack only because you haven't totally unpacked from the last trip yet

- When you go through your coat pockets and find metro tickets (and then put them back so you can have that happy memory when you "find" that ticket again later)

When you read all these things and as much funthey are to remember, it kind of bums you out not to be out there right now.

When you read this list and uncovered a few email addresses form people you met along the way to try to get back in touch with them.

You check the exchange rates everyday in case you can get an incredible deal on foreign currency.

You get offended when people say you have wander lust insisting that what you have is wander love

When you carry a small roll of toilet paper with you to the bathroom in the middle of the night only because you've been in the habit of doing so for the past few weeks.

I slowly began to tell the difference but when in doubt I would say "I'm not too good with accents, are you from New Zealand?" If they were from Australia, they would say "Oh, no I'm from Australia". No harm done. If they happened to be from New Zealand then they would say "YES! Everyone thinks we are Australian or British! Finally someone gets it right!"

Either way you Aussies and Kiwis know how to backpack right!

You can use this technique for Canadians and Americans as well

if you dont even bother lying on job apps anymore when they ask how long you will be in town for, and find yourself taking shit jobs because you have already walked out of all the good ones to leave town

when you live on a major air traffic lane, and the constant planes flying overhead only make you jealous

when they know you on a first name basis at the airport.

when you look around your room and see different backpacjs from different trips

when you havent bought a car cause it will only gather dust.

when you have 6 drivers licensees and 4 are suspended cause you dont live in the city to pay the ticket

you can find your passport faster than your keys

you start leaving your computer at home because it is the only way to be sure you will go home eventually

if you have ever been at a party and just not gone home.

when your roommates forget you live there. (that happened once)

when your plates registration, insurance and title all come from different places.

when you dont even bother paying state taxes anymore because you havent lived in one state long enough to reach the tax cut off in years

if you find money in your pants and have no clue where you can spend it.

if you have ever gotten a hotel room for ramen noodles

if you have ever forgotten what language you need to speak to catch the bus to your next stop

you feel naked without your bag

...if you can look at a subway map from a distance and know what city it is

...if you know 10 street names in another country (or street names in 10 countries)

...if you have flown Ryanair, Easy Jet, or Aer Lingus

...if you have forgotten what city you are in

...if you scoff at guided tours and travel agents

...if you have friends in other countries

...if you have slept in an airport, trainstation or bus terminal.

...if you forget which language you should be speaking (so I am ripping of C0urt, this happened to me in Spain at Foster's Hollywood Grill stupid English menus and American pop music)

When you are noticeably "happiest" to your family & friends as soon as you book the flight for your trip.

When people ask:
"So any thoughts where you're going next."

You have a birthday while traveling.

Your resume includes a job in a foreign country.

You take pride in packing light.

I've had my last three birthdays overseas, that can be cool.

Or not, like turning 21 in a dry country! (that's the traditional get-drunk-because-its-actually-legal-now birthday in the US)... haha
