Mine is "Europe on 84 cents a day" by Gil White.

This guy trek'd Europe back in the 70's before it everyone caught on what an amazing place it was, before the rush of tour groups crowded the streets and cafes. I don't even know if this book is still in print, I got it back in 1995...In the 70's this guy traveled for 84cents a day...That would be amazing!!! Now it is much more $$$ to do, but if you are dedicated, you can apply all the same principles. I refer to it often, and enjoy reading it more than any other book I have.

sounds like someone was thinking with all cylinders with that book.....travel cheap and write about it.............i always felt that was the way to do it....i wasnt around in the seventies------but i can only imagine what it musta been like.......no crowds, maybe even friendly people? 0k that maybe a stretch.....ha,ha that settle on the fact that it was probaly great....

Wow, did they even have hostels back then? Was it a little inconvenient, if cheaper, bein a trailblazer?

Dude, he lists hostels in every city he was at.....Its a great book, and the pics are cool, i love the gear they used to wear!!!

He did lectures at UNi's all over the Western world...I have tried to find a schedule, but i don't know if he is still doing it or not...I am looking into it though...It would great to hear him speak!!

Im sure this my be a little cliche of a travel favorite but on the road by Jack Kerouac always makes me want to quit whatever im doing and just drive cross country, also I like The Rum Diaries by hunter S Thompson, set in San Jaun, Sounds like a really cool place to go, and just hang out and get drunk
