I think the southern (U.S.) accent is easy to pick up. I had a roomate from Tennesee for only two weeks as part of a work-related training course I did years ago. Plus, it seemed like everyone I hung out with at the course was from the south. I came back with a slight twang and saying things like y'all (but only for a short time before my fine New England friends set me straight!). I think it is human nature to sub-consciously blend in with your surroundings and pick up local habits if you are around them for a time.

Wow, this thread grew pretty fast.

I'm always trying to mimic accents. When a customer comes in and i hear an accent, I automaticly start copying them. Even before I realize im doing it . I'm pretty sure I'll catch one or two on my next trip. Especially being in Nzd and OZ for a year. Oh I hope i get one. It would be awesome!
(<i think thats my fav smiley)

Another word that we canucks say alot is ... Dude. I think that canadians talk more like surfers than surfers do. or maybe just the people ive met.

(<whats this one for? like cry me a river?)

I just love chicks. ... My Brother slips in and out of the southern accent really quickly. I however, don't really pick up on accents as much as try to speak in someone else's language.
