Well I had mentioned my trip to Mexico that I took over the summer before. It was kind of cool though today because they called to say that they found my luggage. I am excited because I get my pack back which is cool just to have again since it was my "buddy" on other trips and also they said my Jackaroo hat was in there. I loved that hat. I got it in Australia and have had it with me on every other trip since. Whether it was other countries, another state, anything. It was so sad to me that it was going to be gone forever. They are sending my bag back to me hopefully by Wednessday they said.
So I guess it all worked out in the end.

Thanks guys. I had the lady on the phone and she was actually kind of funny. She was like "I see this and that and yadda yadda" as she was checking to make sure it was my bag. I was just like, "yeah thats fine, do you see a hat? Is there a big beige hat in there?" and she was laughing and was like "yeah, its an intresting one anyhow" and then towards the end of the phone call I was like "So do you find people stuff much?" and she told me yeah and I was like "Really?" and she gave me the best answer "Nah, not really. It just sounds good if I say it though. The bosses like it. You really got lucky."
Tell you the truth, I never thought I would see my stuff again either. Everything for me always just has a weird way of working out right on its own. i guess this is just one more case to show for it.

Awesome!! It will be good to see it again and to have it back. if not for travel purposes to have your old pack again, but for sentimental reasons as well.
Now be careful with it on your next trip!

Hey, I havent talked to you in a while. I'll have to send you a message soon to catch up.
Be careful with it? I had it securly in the hands of American Airlines highly trained Luggage Task Force. The LTF if you will. They are the best in the biz. I hear three people went down in action just trying to rescue my bag. They must have known about the hat.

Don't the airlines have to compensate you for this inconvenience? Check into that.
I flew to Seattle one time and my luggage, during the stopover, didn't make it on my same flight.
I had all my clothes, contact solution, toiletries, etc...in there. So, I went to the baggage claim dept and asked them what I should do.
They said that I get a $100 allowance to buy clothes and necessities, just keep the receipts and they compensate me up to $100.
Done, and done. Off to Banana Republic I went...

I think it depends on the airlines.. I had a "Fight Club moment" with America West a few years back when they were still America Worst (MUCH improved now...) Anyway, they didn't seem to give much of a crap that they lost all my fancy stuff that I had to take for a wedding - "I had everything in that bag. My CK shirts, my DKNY shoes..." Grr... I got my stuff back a week later after it had been all over the lower 48, with no compensation, and the guy who brought it to my apartment expecting a freakin' TIP. Farkin iceholes...

I might try to see if I can get some money back since I had a cell phone in there and had to buy a new one since it was AWOL. If I could get that money back it would be cool and then just give my family the extra one to upgrade theirs.

Yup..I had a buddy I use to work with who traveled a lot and he was a master at this. He was getting new luggage all the time and clothes occasionally because he would raise a stink about something happening to his suitcase, getting ripped, beat-on, something being lost, etc. Always worth a try - but you might have to work at it.

-- Yeah...we know his type. We see it all the time in the airline biz.
My favorite are the folks who think it's cool to keep their destination tags on the bag from their last several flights. "Hey buddy, how about we send your bag back there so it can check things out while you go where you're supposed to?" The ticket counter is supposed to take them off, but hey, I don't like to leave things to chance when I can take care of it myself...
Oh, and Omi: Thanks for the "much improved" comment...!

I guess technically, the airlines aren't responsible if your luggage gets damaged - as long as what's inside is ok, then it's serving its function. I do hate, however, how American Airlines has a tendency not only to lose luggage during transfers, but also to rip handles/straps off of suitcases/backpacks, and not offer to do anything about it. Grrr...
