I think your parents and the way they brought you up define a person more than anything. Mabye more of a basis, obviously things change as time goes on and other occurances might change how you percieve yourself.

What defines me is the freedom my parents gave me, they never told me don't do this, don't do that. Do what you want to do, when you want to do it, but ofcourse always stay within good boundaries.

I guess that is one of the reasons I was a good child, and never harmed my parents emotionaly. Only gave them great memories of my accomplishments.

I will say I discribe myself as a character that is funny, daring, and creative, and adventures, and sports like.

who knows where those characters came from, because my parents are both shy and quite......

People read about this and lump it in to the "Tony Robbins" pile real quick. Haha, this is no Tony Robbins. I have worked with the teacher of this intensive and can say the experience of working with him is beyond words, he just has an ability to reach people on a deeper level than many people have ever felt in their lives.

And you have to pay to go to workshops with him or what? Give us the lowdown here, if you will?

I was avoiding this topic, but am starting to feel a little left out.

Anyhow, I cannot answer the question about what defines me because I just don't know.

Quote:
What makes you who you are?
I'd say what made me who I am is a series of things - of course my parents played a role in shaping me, but I was ultimately the one that made the decisions that I have over the years that have brought me to where I am. I rarely rebelled (at least not for the sake of rebellion), just did what I thought was right. Jake and I follow(ed) a very untraditional path but one that has always been right for us, and that has definitely had quite a bit of impact. Now, we're going to settle down for awhile, although we are already planning our next trips (06 Mexico and maybe NW Pac), we plan on staying in one place for more than a year. Lets see what that does to me. I've also had some bad things happen to me in my past that I had no control over. Instead of dwelling on those things and feeling sorry for myself, I became grateful, no matter how bad it was, because who knows who I'd be had those things never happened, and I'm happy with me now.

I dont reallyagree with this comment only because of personal experiences between me and my brother who were brought up exactly the same way and yet are completely different on a spiritual and materialistic level. Sometimes outside factors such as the friends that you hang around with can shape the way you live your life no matter how you are brought up.

Who am I? What defines me?

I am not sure if I could make a concrete statement on that. My parents have had a big effect. I am a lot like my father. Although completely different in some way. My sick sense of humor and ability to see the lighter side of pretty much anything comes from my father, as does my skill of procrastination. I am different from him in that I am more of a risk taker, I can put everything I have on the line and not worry about it. (i.e. my business, playing poker).

My friends have helped define me, music, movies, books, and the people that I have met all throughout my life.

But I will say that pretty much that for this moment in time my definition would be: a man that is sincere, honest, and calculated free-will with a twisted sense of humor.

I really think that that is huge - how a person deals with difficulty, pain, loss, suffering. It can really lead you down so many paths.

His name is Satyen Raja and I know him threw my Kung Fu school of which he is the master instructor. He's has dedicated his life to continuous enlightenment and holds workshops to provide aid and guidance for those on the same path.
He has a number of workshops for tending to different needs. The most popular is Sex, Passion and Enlightenment. LOTS of people go to that one.

All the information is on the website, I dont think I'd explain it properly.
And yeah you have to pay for the workshops. If he didnt charge, he wouldnt be able to do as much as he does.

i'm still thinking on this but i think this sums up somthing in us nicely

Quote:
If our lives are dominated by a search for happiness, then perhaps few activities reveal as much about the dynamics of this quest - in all its ardour and paradoxes - than our travels. They express, however inarticulately, an understanding of what life might be about, outside the constraints of work and struggle for survival. yet rarely are they considered to present philosphical problems - that is, issues requiring thought beyond the pratical. we are inundated with advice on where to travel to; we hear little of why and how we should go - though the art of travel seems naturally to sustain a number of questions neither so simple nor so trivial and whose study might in modest ways contribute to an understanding of what the Greek philosophers beautifully termed eudaimonia or human flourishing.

that is a tough one to answer.. id have to say what defines you is what you do , whatever your passionate about... if there is such a thing as real passion anymore

what makes you who you are is a complex system of biological systems working together with a lentil sized spiritual spacecraft that is immortal..

You know, some threads really need to be dredged up from the past, dusted off and repackaged - this is one of them...

on topic though, i don't think it's possible to define people since we are constantly changing every second.

Three concepts defines me more than all else... Curiousity, truth and pleasure, these three things have shaped how my life has turned out since high school, including my interest in travel, my career choices and my general demeanor in life.

In fact, I think everything I do can be explained by either one or more of these three things. It also explains why I would still rather pound back the beers with buddies than read a book.
