I've moved around quite a bit over the past 10 years living in 5 different US states and 4 other countries (and visiting a several others). I worked it out recently, and this New Years will be the 11th consecutive New Years I will spend in a different State or Country than the year before. Anybody have a similar situation?
Christmas:
1995 - Louisiana
1996 - Canada
1997 - Malta
1998 - Spain
1999 - Rome, Italy
2000 - Malta
2001 - South Carolina
2002 - Louisiana
2003 - North Dakota
2004 - Chicago, IL
2005 - Seattle, WA (tentative)

Hmm...well, it's hard to say because it's hard to determine what constitutes where you "live." Starting when I went away to university, I "lived" in Nashville for most of two years. Then I was living on the road with the company I worked for starting July of '03 - Indiana, Colorado, Oklahoma, Virginia, and back to Indiana. I spent Christmas '03 in Indiana alone (watching all three Lord of the Rings movies consecutively! WOOHOO!) that year then flew up to my family's new home in Canada the next day. Then a year ago, last August, I moved here to Canada. I've left and come back frequently in the past year, and intend to spend Christmas this year in Finland, if possible.
Prior to University, I had lived in various places in New York on Long Island, and then in Illinois.

WOW. I'm 26, and I've spent every christmas with my family. We do the exact same things every year. Like clockwork. Christmas 2006 will be my first one away from them. I think I'm going to be in Perth, Australia around then. I hope they'll be ok without me.

Well, my family doesn't really celebrate any holidays, so any claims of me not being home for Christmas, New Years, or birthdays is pretty moot on my end...
That said, I rarely spend Thanksgiving or my birthday at "home," since there are so many good travel deals around that time of year!

At this point I just can't imagine spending Christmas with my family each year. On the other hand, must be awesome to have such a family like Tecia's or many others. Don't get me wrong, I am super close to my parents, but we just don't have the kind of family that gets together often.

Well, Christmas is pretty sedentary - it's always with my family (Jake's family doesn't really get together for it, Thanksgiving is their holiday). Although, last year, we got back from New Orleans Christmas eve. Anyhow, we just realized that we've moved 6 times in four years. Now we have a temp move coming up and when we get a place, we're staying there for at least 3 years dammit!!! I'm sick of moving!

Yea, for me it always seems weird to be home for the holidays - because its not where I grew up any more and its not like when I was a kid - I much rather be having a new meaningful experience and just spend time with my parnets other times.

My entire family got togther for Christmas probably for the last time two or three years ago. I don't see how it will happen again. I usually go down to my grandmother's house for Christmas and one of sisters' family comes too with my brother. We still have a good time.
