Oh, and LaurieL622, I'm sure pictures of you burning your Old Glory-decorated panties would help calm my nerves and remind me of how much I love my country...even if the bastards in the White House and Congress work every day to erode the very reasons I love it.

Instead of making the burning of the flag illegal, shouldn't the governing parties pay more attention to WHY people want to do it in the first place?
That is the most intelligent thing anyone has said here.

Personally I would never burn the flag (maybe) but as an American we hold the right to make that decision ourselves, and if someone chooses to burn the flag in protest to a decision that the American government or the American people are making or something they are doing they reserve the right to do so freely.

(im really drunk by the way, and a little pissed) Holy shit. i can't believe this is being discussed. If you burn an American Flag, get the fuck out of the country. if you hate your country so much that you burn the very face that it represents, then you stepped over the line of prortesting. Anyone who burns the Americancan flag for 'protest' is a moron. you can't burn the very thing you are fighting for. B Fight for what it means to you. The American flag is what you are as an American. dont burn it in protest support it in protest. Because anyone who says they are Amrerican and fights for American rights can't burn the flag to protest american freedom. Thats what the flag repsrents. You are bruning th very thing you are supporting. An amendment shouldn't be passed, it would violate the 1t amendment.

To answer that I say: Smoke your joint, float away, live in your tree, and disappear from society while the "rightwing sons a bitches" try to save the very symbol that you are arguieng for. (xanthous nothing on you im just really drunk and love polictal debates. Without it indiviualism wouldn't exist. Pprops to that.)

Is it just me or does anyone notice that lately, when there's some MAJOR shit going down that the White House doesn't feel comfortable addressing, this kind of stuff pops up AGAIN? Diversion tactic? Methinks.

"Well, Iraq is fucked and people are starting to notice, especially the Christian Right that we want to keep on our side... let's dredge up an out-of-the-blue inflammatory topic and get the country in a big fight like we did last time with the whole Gay Marriage issue. It worked then, it should work now too. Haw haw haw."

And boys, boys-- It's one thing to DEBATE something, it's another thing to BASH other people for their opinions! There's a line that will be drawn here.

I agree that burning the flag is wrong and should be illegal.. I'm all about free speach, and if someone burns the flag they should not get death, but they should be fined.. If they want to burn it, then they can leave it and move somewhere else.... to me burning the flag is giving the finger to everyone in the armed forces... just not right..
and why can't some1 give the finger to the armed forces? i wouldnt do it, and i think that if sum1 did they are an a-hole, but i in no way would want to restrict their right to do so. get ready citizens, this marks the official beginning of the modern dark ages. thanx a million all you zealots.
