aaaaah yes THE BEACH..I personally loved the movie, but I think it's because I've never read the book. It actually inspired me to go backpacking (since i was in highschool at the time)

wether a leonardo fan or not i think travellers should see this movie,

there are two others i recommend, both have kate winslet in them, but i can't remember the name of either; in one she spends a couple years travelling in in morrocco, gruelling lifechangeing type events; and the other is with her and harvey kietel where she goes to india, finds religion and then her parents have her re--programmed, because they thought she was with a cult and had been brainwashed.

both kinda bizaire movies, but and interesting twist on travelling and why people do it.

the beach, on the other hand is just a litlle to westernized for me, especially the part where he starts to become a video game in the jungle, but the movie also does pose the theory that travelling is a fantasy, something dreamed about before or relived after, with alot of the reality glossed over. <_<

no matter where you go there you are.

oh ya, and while your watching movie, put in the wizard of oz, turn the sound down and at the third roar of the lions head (MGM Grand logo) start dark side of the moon, cd or lp. sit back, get toasted and be amazed

HAHAHA! Must be a serious trip watching the Wizard of Oz that way !

Hey, I never saw the beach either, but I run into a lot of potential backpackers inspired to take a trip because they saw that movie. Most want to go to Thailand, I think that where, and do as they did.

Broken Down Palace and Return to Paradise were interesting movies about traveler that were busted in parts of Asia due to being caught with drugs(whether they really used them or if they just had it on them), and showed how harsh punishment can be if you ge caught. All those heading off to Asia might want to rent these as part of the preparation for your trip.

Haven't seen the other to films you mentioned on Kate Winslet, but here's her IMDB, so maybe the titles will ring a bell and you can post them.

I really liked the beach...I saw it in thew theater about 2 months after it came out and I was the only one in the theater...LOLOL

I was sitting in my favorite seat, middle row middle seat...enjoying my popcorn, and drink along with a smoke!!! About half way through the movie an usher came in i guess to check things out and I had just finished a smoke, I tried to look as inocent as possible, but the smoke floating up through the light of the projector kinda gave me away

The usher never did say anything....

Yeah I think the beach is they type of movie that you either love or hate. Keroucs-I saw hideous kinky and your right it is kinda weird, but I thought it was great! I love kate winslet as an actress. Shes the type of actress that you actually believe. You never see her at hollywood events (you know she ain't nicole kidman, j-lo, salma hayek etc). She's compelety turned herself away from 'social hollywood'. So i find that I can actually believe her acting, more so than other glam stars. And most of her films are high budget(okay except titanic!).

you know what movie i really like but no one else did..G.I. Jane w/ Demi moore. Man she kicked A$$!

CD- you tool!

Hey Dio!

I loved G.I. Jane! Man...She was my heroe! I kind of related to her, working in forestry and always being the only girl and having to be able to follow the 6 foot tall guys all day! I must admit that I needed 10 hours of sleep each night (and very big meals!) to be able to keep up!

saw demi at my old acting school listening to the speaker jamie kennedy speak(who also graduated from my tiny little school ). Man...she's like 5 foot nothing! tiny little woman!

KC, Barefacts is the book and I spent a lot of time thumbing through it at Barnes and Noble! Then rented every Madeliene Stowe movie that they listed :D The website has nothing, though....in this day and age, dang, they need to get with the program!

CD, as always, funny story CD

tp-------u went to malibu high??????? ok ill give the beach a try.........i think the movie brokedown palace was about the gurl who gave stayed in prison for the rest of her life in order to let her friend go home????? where vince vaughn was suppose to go back to thailand...........if that was the movie, it was great movie, but sad. it raised alot of issues about friendship and love and loss...........when i was thinking about that movie my thoughts were that i dont think any man would stay in prison to let there best friend go home. a women and her best friend i could see. as far as male or female going back to thailand to face a prison sentence, i dont think any man or women would go back-( a few would ) knowing that u would face a long prison sentence, and if u stayed in the united states no one could touch u.......i know it would be wrong and maybe the guilt would end up killing me-------but at the time being in any prison---let alone a 3rd world prison.................ok the thought would make drop a load in shorts.

I had seen Broken Down Palace before I went to China and I was trippin' every time I cam across a military check point or border crossing or something along those lines. It kinda got in my head, but it all turned out ok.

wong, I went to a small well know "word of mouth" method acting school in Santa Monica. Jamie Kennedy graduated there too, but 2 or 3 years earlier. The guy used to sleep in his car in Hollywood- dirt poor.

I think you're right about the premise of Broken Down Palace. I didn't see the beginnig, but I thought it had to do with drugs, no?

Yeah, the Vince Vaughn movie definitely made you think about your friendships, love, and losses. What a scary predicament to ever be in. Not sure what I would do if I were in his place I just pray that I would never have to be in a position to have to make such a life altering decision.

Everyone rent that movie (Return to Paradise)! Then let us know what you would do!

Talking

cabbie i just saw the movie the beach, and now i hate lenardo more than ever :P
yes it was a good movie----as far as getting away from it all and being self-suffient it would be a great for maybe a year or two at the most.......i hate the rat race as much as everyone, but sooner or later your gonna wanna move on with your life--------and what about the guys with no g/f's, then they were gay i take it.......and how come not even one person had a kid-----------sooner or later some or most of those gurls are gonna want kids....and if the island was a forbidden national preserve sooner or later the authorities would stumble onto it.... if they planned on staying forever------only one other point, dieases--- u would need to keep your shots current. living on an island with a french hottie like that would be a real bonus ( but with her x-boyfriend on the same beach has to be creepy ) i think i covered all the fine points
