So I'm going to Egypt in the spring-- yay!-- but now I am in an eerily similar situation to what I found myself last spring... a friend of mine wants to go with me. I love my friend dearly, and in all probability I would have a great time with her as she's a really cool person. But why is it that every single time I plan a trip and tell people hey, guess what I'm doing!, invariably at least one person says "fantastic-- that sounds like fun, can I come too?" (wwm -- I do not count you in this group, dear. ) And then added to the fact that usually I am already visiting people in various destinations and jeez, I feel like social obligations are piling up already.

I realize that this is a totally selfish thing to gripe about and I'm really not horribly bothered, I just think it's interesting that this happens so often. And maybe I shouldn't bitch about having so many friends who want to spend time with me, haha.

*side note: This particular friend is also a belly dancer, and as I said before, Cairo is, essentially, THE belly dance mecca. We have talked generally about traveling together and she has wanted to go to Egypt for years. She has done a lot of traveling on her own as well, so I know that she would probably be a fantastic travel partner.

Is your friend serious about this?

Do you wanna travel solo or with her?

How's your belly dancing abilities?

if you answered 2 outta three as a "yes" then the answer is staring straight at you.

See what a psychologial help I am...?

WWM, Joanie, myself (and possibly a few others) are also throwing ideas around about an Iceland trip; wanna join??

Dead serious. She's already talked to her husband about it and he said sure (which is a huge concession on his part.)

In the end I wouldn't mind traveling with her and I'd probably have a lot of fun. But criminy, I only just decided on Egypt last week, and now this. I guess I should have expected it. And part of me would really like to be able to take a trip by myself at some point, although perhaps going to Egypt as a single american girl wouldn't be the first choice. That's just one reason why I'm willing to have wwm come along if he wants, besides the fact that he seems like a cool guy.

Pretty good-- I should hope, on account of I'm a professional and all (believe me, I know that doesn't always mean anything.) But what do you want me to say-- nah, I suck? j/k No matter how good someone is, though, there is *always* room for improvement. And my friend is even better-- she was one of my teachers. She's fantastic. But we're spoiled here in Seattle, we have an incredible number of world-class dancers and instructors.

Wow - didin't know you are a belly-dancing pro...

But Voyd's right, you know, half the time the 'tag-alongers' cancel out eventually; hell, I've had my fair share of 'em....

^ haha, I wouldn't be considering spending $600 - $800 on a custom-made costume while I'm there if I wasn't somewhat of a pro... because otherwise that would just mean I was insane.

Of course there is a chance that she will back out, but the fact that she even mentioned the idea to her husband *at all* means she's pretty fucking serious (long story, sigh.) Like I said, I really shouldn't bitch about it because she's a great person and would most likely be fun to travel with.

Ray, if you could give me a hand.. and we can tally up to see who is interested in going and make a list. I was talking to a few airlines not too long ago about hooking up for group deal to a destination... so I can see if I might be able to get something going. Might not, but hey its worth a shot. Unless anyone knows of a cheap way to get to Iceland... (besides swimming or taking a row boat) How long we going for anyways?

Rob,
To keep it sensible, I'll propose a trip no longer than 5 days to a week.

let's start a new thread on this, eh, barry ?

(hehe - j/k!)
