yuck yuck yuck....I'm not normally bothered by bugs/insects, but those things are just gross. They are swarming Ohio, where I just left 2 weeks ago, so I guess I am lucky I am not there anymore.

In New York there is a small weird bar/restuarant in the East village that sells a wide range of Cicada food. Ive seen
Cicada Scampi, Cicada Sandwich, Cicadas dipped in honey and placed in a fruit salad, Cicadas dipped in chocolate. I heard they taste like low grade shrimp. If anyone ever in NYC id be more then happy to treat them to some grade A bugs

Nope somn, you don't have to deal with them in CA. We could always capture one and send it to you though if you feel like you're missing out.

Nope. Illegal from what I understand. The show "fear factor" tried to do something with them, but they are illegal in Cal. I'm in Cincinnati and the city is just covered in them. They don't bother me per se until they make that damn noise. Can't even hear myself think all day. Ugh.

For anyone who's mildly or moderately curious about these monster creatures, here's a link to the Post that tells you their area of interest (or invasion, in this case):
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro...ada_050304.html
So, I am both curious but a little weary of them; I mean, it's gotta be ultra cool to ses millions/billions flying around everywhere; I had a DREAM they invaded my house (urgh!); that's how much of a novelty I can get sometimes; but big bugs are ugly and sure to jolt me when one (or dozens) decide to stick to my clothes or bare skin (jezus!).
No idea when they'll surface in NJ; you see, they grow from the ground up. It's mystifying to watch it - apparently - during the night when they all crawl up. Kinda like the Night of the Living Cicada Dead if you will, except they number in the millions. I'm thinking of borrowing my friend's camcorder and videoing my backyard.
But maybe not.... :greenguy:

But c'mon, what's more nostalgic and eerie about insects as large as 2-3 inches that grow from your backyard once every seventeen years, in numbers of mythical proportions?
It's suppose to happen pretty soon around here; who knows how long they'll be around for??
I have friends in VA (Virginia/Wash DC area) and they have been attacked already; I'll try to post some of their pictures from their office windows/backyards/porch etc.
And what to do with so many of them??
Can anyone say "BBQ"??

I do feel like I'm missing out. We have every other type of biblical disaster here, why not insect plagues too?

It messed up last time I posted this so here we go.
For all of you with the abundance of Cicadas that are fans of the Atkins diet. Here is a great Atkins approved food! Cicadas are high in protein and have 0 carbs. Yes that is right. mmm-mmm-good.
Now the best way to get your Cicadas are to get them about dawn as they are burrowing out of the ground. The females are best as the holloe shell of the male makes them more crunch then anything.
You can basically cook a cicada any way you want, fry, boil, broil, deep fry, bake. You can also dip them in chocolate. So just think of all the free food you could get, great for those budget minded people. But don't get too much of an affection as these ones won't be back around for another 17 years. awwww... perhaps you could try deep freezing some.
