hello everyone. Well, I am 16 hours into my 22-hour work day so far. I haven't maimed or killed but there were a couple of mighty close calls. I hate stupid people. I had to work a catering job at farking 3:00am today, even though I'm the boss and I do the scheduling, because -- get this, you'll be so surprised-- I had a shortage of people available to work at 3:00am! Yes, three o'clock A fucking M, as in the middle of the fucking night, to set up/serve/tear down for a stupid 1-hour long breakfast for 1500 stupid people for a stupid GOP political candidate's stupid fundraising efforts. Then, because my boss is out of town, I had to go straight from there (8 hour shift) to my office to hold down the fort and do damage control, which of course always happens when you're so exhausted that you're pretty sure you're having hallucinations. Right now I am home, it's 7:00pm and I'm here just to shove some food down my throat, grab a new shirt and then head out to *another* catering job. Granted, this will be a nicer one-- bartending at the opening gala for the Seattle International Film Festival, and hell, it's at a museum, so it can't be that bad right? hahahahahah oh yes it can, because I'm going to be working til *at least* 1:00! Yay for me. And no, I don't get overtime pay because it's technically two different jobs. Sorry, I had to rant. Yeah, I know I'm insane.

Christ I need a drink.

and I don't say that very often!

damn girl, that sounds like tons o' fun. Who the hell eats breakfast at 3 in the morning.

Hope you put that tip jar out at the bartending.....just in case.

It's easy to sneak drinks when you're bartending gigs like that, so have fun.

good luck, sleep well

That is hellified. I understand your situation.. I have had a few loooooong days at work. One I worked from 11p.m. to 8am at my one job doing midnight stock, left to go to court for an hour or so, then went to a second job and worked from about 11a.m. til 10:30p.m. and then finally got to eat something. I was exhausted that day. All I know is I slept very well after that. Although I didn't have to deal with people constantly, so I think yours is far worse... I remember the 15 hour days in retail that by the end you just shut yourself in the office because you are sick of dealing with the 500 or so choice morons of the day. I noticed the longer of a day you work the stupider the people are. YOu always get the crazy people that want to tell you about how they were abducted by space aliens, and the cranky old ladies that are made because on the last day of ad you are out of like vinegar or something stupid. ARRRGGHH! Anyways... hope your day was as good as it could be... and hope you snuck a drink or two.

I made it, I'm alive and didn't shed any blood. We weren't allowed to keep any tips we earned because it was a non-profit event, so all tips went into a donation box. No chance of sneaking any $ (or any booze for that matter, but I wouldn't do that anyway, for a lot of reasons, chief among them being that a catering bar is usually set up like a fishbowl surrounded by people.) I worked in the VIP room and saw several people that looked sorta familiar, but the only "famous" person I recognized was Tom Skerritt. He lives in Seattle and I've seen him at other events. He's a really nice guy too, always goes out of his way to say thank you to us. Drew Barrymore is going to be at an event on Tuesday but I won't be working that one.

I have to say that I am glad that catering involves a lot of fast movement like running around with heavy objects and moving a lot of furniture, because if all I had to do was stand around it would have been excruciating. I am the kind of person that needs to keep moving, which is why I could never do retail! Bartending can sometimes be a real bitch for that reason, but fortunately this event kept me busy.

Man do I feel funky today.
