If you could own a hostel where would that be? Would you do this to make the most money possible or try to make it as cheap as possible for travelers (cheap daily rate, free internet, dollar beers, etc). Or how about owning a moped rental shop on some island in greece? what are peoples ideas.

IThis is a dream for me and its not about da $$$..Its something I think about often and wonder if I will ever be able to pull it off. My ideal place for a hostel would be St.Johns, Newfoundland orthis is a bit far feched but to have one on a island all by its self...some where warm...

Jamacia baby! Instead of a big stucco building there'd be grass huts scattered on the beach...little ones, big ones, with outdoor showers in little stalls all roughin' it. And firepits by every hut and one bonfire spot. Maybe a bungalo. Swiss Family Robinson to the extreme! All hidden from gross tourist chlorinated pools and hotels, but close enough to rockin' clubs and bars, not to mention the natural wonders of the country. Yowja...

Santorini, Greece!!!! I would try to make it more affordable than the rest of what's around there, maybe have it close to the water and near an olive grove or a garden with eucalyptus trees...definitely have space for tents and outdoor showers. oh, and I would get a bunch of those little fiat bambini cars, take off the roofs, paint them in bright colors and rent them out for use on the island.

Yeah, I'd have to go with an island somewhere in the south pacific. Might not get many guests, but at least I would be living in paradise. Theres always drug running to make ends meet.

I would like to have one right here in Detroit, Mi. Try to help budget travelers come through here. Or perhaps in one of the surrounding cities like Ann Arbor. Otherwise, a warm coastal town somewhere.

This is an actual quote from one of my professors, not edited or changed in any way:

Hmmm... he might need to rephrase that since it is mostly black and hispanic. Most suburbanites rarely ever go to Detroit, so I don't think they would count. It is having something of a rebirth. We even have our own Hard Rock Cafe now.... oooooh... yeah I know you are all jealous.

I'd do a joint... Coastal Hostel somewhere warm with moped, bike, surfboard rentals, stuff like that.. I have no clue where but you better beleive they're be surfing...

Actually it's funny that this topic came up... My friend saw a business for sale (I forget the location now, but somewhere nice) in which it rented out mopeds for this beachside town.. it was for some rediculously cheap price and they actually thought of me and told me about it cause they thought it'd be perfect for me I thought it was hilarious that I actually am viewed by others as I am to myself.

Joanie, why would my love for my hometown have to do with my lack of promiscuity?

it just seems to indicate (to me) that you are the type of man to be content with what's in his own backyard, so to speak - rather than chasing the proverbial greener grass/worldly ideal. makes sense to me.

Well I think about the greener grass, but part of me realizes that its not always that greener. With my city as with most other things, if it works for me and I don't have any problems, why change?

It's like in "High Fidelity" when Rob tells Laura that he wants to marry her.

I'm just sick of thinking about all this stuff... settling down, marriage, I'm sick of it and want to think of something else. Other women, I was just thinking that they're just fantasies. You know, and they always seem really great cause there never any problems. And if there are they are cute problems like we bought each other the same christmas gifts, or she wants to go see a movie I've already seen. Then I come home and you and I have real problems like you don't even want to see the movie i want to see. You have the cotton white panties that have been washed a thousand times and in the fantasy I don't have to see it. I'm tired of the fantasy because it doesn't really exist, and there are never any surprises and it never really delivers. I'm tired of it, and I am tired of everything else for that matter, but I never get tired of you.

Close to wha the says. Yeah.. that is close to an opinion I would have.

see, so maybe where one would choose to build their dream hostel in relationship to their hometown really does have some bearing on how fidelious (is that a word? haha!) one can be... man, i knew i was getting somewhere - pass the joint! ahhaa!

Fidelious.... is that like having to do with fidel like Fidel Castro?

Joan maybe you shouldn't be taking a hit off that joint when it gets passed to you.
