Default Travel for a living: Diplomatic Courier

Here's a useful thread I came across...this applies to US citizens only, although I suppose any government would have similar positions. This guy is a Diplomatic Courier, which means he carries classified documents from place to place for the Department of State. You can either be located in DC, or be stationed at a foreign embassy or military base. It is considered a Foreign Service Officer position, so it has a fairly long and burdensome application process...but the bennies are nice I'm sure:

This video gives a helpful "day in the life" view of the job:

I noticed they last accepted applications in October so it will probably be some number of months before you could apply again. But he seems to update that thread regularly with news, and there are ways to have the government jobs site email you with new jobs that open up.

Wish I had known about that job in my 20's. Funny video. I like the payoff at the end

Can you really apply for just this job though, or are you applying for all positions within the Foreign Service and just suggesting this as a preference? I've been to a Foreign Service recruiters info session and was completely turned off since it was too much like the military, but if I could get this job specifically, that'd be great. Man, my chances would be pretty good though, military experience, extended travel experience, 2.5 languages, might have to look into this.
