I responded to one of thier recent postings about doing an episode of True Life on backpacking Europe, and the girl gave me a call and asked me a bunch of questions. Although there is no way in hell I would ever be thier subject, I plan on seeing if they actually offer it to me. A lot of questions about how big of a player I am, so I'm sure they have a Real Cancun type scenario in mind. It seems to me a camera crew following you around on your travels defeats the purpose of this type of excursion. Although if they offer to cover expenses in full, I might reconsider.

wow mtv sure has some "interesting" shows. We dont get it up here (unless you have satellite) but, when i was in seattle my friend and I spent half the time watching mtv cuz we couldnt believe the shows! They love debauchery don't they! So this show is about a backpackers life?? haha that's so funny. Can u imagine if you were in a hostel and a camera crew comes in filming a guy in your dorm. wtf!? I don't think any backpacker would take that guy seriously anymore.

Though SOM you do have a point. If it is all paid for....hmm

lets get this clear: True Life is about the everyday DRAMA of a backpacker's life... I think it's a GREAT idea for a show... we should all offer to take part...

I can't say that with a straight face APRIL FOOLS!

Just think Som....next thing you know, you will be on TV all the time, doing those Real World/Road Rules/ soon to be Backpacker challenge shows, hosting spring break......who knows, you might get picked to host TRL and talk to Britney about her latest 30 second marriage.....Good luck with all that, ha, ha.........

Hey non of the shows last more than three weeks of taping... and if they were going to pay for your trip... I'd do it!

MTV's called me a couple times to do shows... but they wanted me on a few dating shows... actually they wanted me to do the pilot episode for meet the parents (not the movie), and they offered me 1,000 and a free trip to Hawaii for me and my parents. I couldnt see myself on a dating show (especially already having a boyfriend )

Hey, I'd do it, if I got to choose where to go, and also, if they paid for me! But, I think thats more on the lines of a travel programme. I think a camera crew would get on my nerves a bit though. Unless, the camera man was hot.

I met one of there casting guys at a club, he took my photo on his camera phone, and I got a call the next day. They kept me in there system for the next six months ( I got phone calls for a lot of different shows), after i said no so many times they stopped calling.

Thinking about it, TravelPunk would be a kick ass name for a show! nice premise too...

TravelPunk show?!??? psssshhh... I laugh at its mediocracy....

We need a Travel Punk Channel ... 24 hour a day, 7 day a week live feed of TP'ers around the world. 24 punkers a day, each getting their own hour slot. Think about it.... with all the sponsorship, we could all travel all the time. Who wouldn't want to watch a show of C-dude sleeping in the ditch or raiding a buffet, peopple beating up gelatto guys, Joan smoking a fatty in a-dam.

and TP would keep it real, no camera crews, just hardcore mini cam's attached to the person... see what they see... gotta be covert. direct live feeds to the editing office so we can cut that long week into an hour slot. Yes, somebody get Ted Turner on the phone we have a killer idea here... the ultimate in Reality TV! You can't get more real then this!

I like the digi cam idea.. but I think everyone should just get a little handheld as well... make a video diary (few entries a day) plus lots of location shots... edited together... with commentary over the video... local music... undiscoverd bands... kick ass parties... rock on!

I'm IN!

Yeah I was thinking that too... just because I am sure that we would have to comment on a few things here and there.

Then after a year or two we could start offereing DVD's of people's travels...

"And NOW.... you can get the BEST OF CANADIAN DUDE, all of his wacky stunts, and funny as hell situations packed together on 1 DVD! Fun to watch over and over again! Just $24.95! Call NOW to order."

Yeah... it will be great.

I just responded to thier posting. Here is the address for anyone else that might be interested - backpacking@mtvstaff.com. They said to respond with your information and phone number along with why you want to spend the summer backpacking. Never hurts to try. Why did you keep turning them down Ashpunk? Mabye if you responded now they would jump at the chance to have you.

I like the covert idea better too. I will have a portable hard drive with me so I do plan on taking a lot of video with my digital camera which I hope to edit together into a little movie.
