Default secret santa

Has anyone ever proposed a tpunk Secret Santa event? I know these are usually somewhat lame, but I thought it could be cool for us because there's always the option to send something local to wherever you live. Some sand from a beach in Manly and a jar of Vegemite...or whatever you can think of from where you live!

Here's how it might work:

What the heck is Secret Santa?
For anyone who doesn't know, secret santa is where a group of people submit their names and addresses and are randomly paired up. If you participate you'll get sent another tpunker's info, and you mail them an anonymous present! The identity of who sent the gift is supposed to remain a secret, although if you receive a Celine Dion mix tape or a roll of det cord you can surely try to guess who your Santa was based on that. We can decide to reveal the Santa's identities at some point down the line as well if people want to.

I'd love to participate but I'd have to cancel my trip to Bhutan and I've been saving for this trip for 6 years!
This isn't meant to be expensive. The maximum cost, before shipping, should be around $15-20. But that's a maximum...if you can think of something fun for less go for it!

I'm not sure I can afford to send a granite replica of the Rosetta Stone overseas, what do I do?
If you want to play, you can choose whether you're willing to ship internationally or not and get paired up based on that preference.

I don't know what to get most of the people here...
No problem! Everyone from the oldest members to people who have just joined shouldn't hesitate to participate. For newer members this would be a great way to get to know people in our community. We can help you learn about your recipient, or you can just send them something unique to yourself or where you're from. Knowing our members, there will be some creative and weird gifts.

I've been to a tpunk meetup, there's no way I'm letting the likes of you have my address!
Wow, harsh. But if you want to participate you'll have to let me and 1 other random tpunk know your address. If there's anyone specific you'd rather not share your info with that's no problem and I'll keep your request between us.

But Brett, if you get everyone's address then how will you get a secret present?
I guess I wont, I'm taking one for the team. But my address is on facebook if anyone feels sorry for me

It's pretty much December now, is there time for this?
Not really, but I figure we can just try to mail things by the end of December and report in on out loot in January when it starts to arrive.

Sounds awesome, how do I sign up?
Post here if you're interested for now...if we get enough people, maybe 10ish at least, then I'll have you PM me your addresses.

Put me down as a definite maybe. I can't believe you went through all that effort righting a FAQ. I'm impressed.

Also it would be heaps cheaper to just smear some vegemite on a postcard rather than post a whole jar.
