Yep! Vegemite is king! But also tim tams. When I was last in the UK i missed fresh vegies, as the quality of produce was not the same as Aus.

Agreed ^ It seems like in Europe there is a smaller selection of fruits and veggies, but the produce sections of the grocery stores in the US are huge. And I don't know about in Oz but in the US all the produce looks perfectly perfect whereas if I go thru the bin in Europe I laugh cuz all the produce there would be rejected back home.

Top Ramen, real nachos (like someone else said) & mexican food in general, and thai food.

amen to that. I always get a little sketched out when I was buying milk in South America... hardly ever in a fridge, always in a weird cardboard box. I wasn't a fan. In one city I went to like four grocery stores till I found one that sold milk in plastic bags in the fridge. I gotta have milk man!

LOL! who misses Top Ramen! that's hysterical.

I'm not down on the milk thing, since I'm lactose intolerant. I love soy milk but not everywhere I've traveled has been down with the soy milk apparently cos I can't find it anywhere!

I also missed Mexican food and was never so happy as to find a little Mexican place with fantastic burritos in Grenoble, France. I only wish I had a picture. I also missed veges a lot in Europe. We didn't get to eat them because we were too poor, not because there didn't have any (obviously). I think I ate bread and beer only for 8 weeks straight!

How about food you don't miss? Let me declare my hate on for Chickfila! Its the lesser of all evils of the food court in the mall (where I work) so I am involuntarily a frequent customer. And today I simply asked for a kid's meal toy (language CD) with my more expensive combo and they informed me I would have to pay. Seriously I also worked at the mall before I went to Europe and let me say the one food I was NOT craving was Chickfila!

I never noticed what food I've missed until my last trip to America and Canada...
I missed:

A good ol' Aussie style Turkish Kebab... (Like the Shwarmas - not the ones on the stick)... You know the ones when you are drunk and you feel seedy and the only thing that can make a great night better is a Kebab.

Chips (like the steak fries)... Aussie pubs in NYC had them and they were the best.

Maltesers when I was in America (Whoppers aren't the same...), Twisties and Burger Rings...

Being back at home now, I've been craving Funyuns, Bugles and Sunchips. Oh and Almond M&Ms. And James' Lemonade from Kansas. OMG I LOVE JAMES' LEMONADE!

Nope I'm actually 100% English... raised in Canada though... perogies are in all the supermarkets around Toronto and I just got into them... I've actually learnt how to make them really well here in Aus... so I'm good... But Kraft Dinner and poutine are still killers.

You can buy chips and gravy from any chicken shop in Australia. Is that near the Poutine experience?

and kd huh? i don't think i could ever miss/crave kd.

Usually you have to go to chain steak food restuarants to find steak fries. Although I was a race last night, and the steak fries they had at the concession stands were amazing.

Sunships are the bomb! Good to know about the Turkish kebab though, are they made out of lamb and chicken?

You get a choice of Lamb or Chicken...or both.

Berlin and Krakow and some of the best kebabs I've ever eaten. In Krakow I was on a first name basis with the Kebab guys by day 2.

When I'm out of the Americas, I miss, even crave, Mexican food. Living in Australia, I learned to make my own corn tortillas and carnitas out of frustration. When I'm out of Melbourne, I miss the amazing souvlaki; give me Lamb on Chapel any day.

Above all else, though, is the cliche Brit in me. I never travel anywhere without a jar of Marmite!

A steak fry is just a thick cut fry...
