for those who like to party on the plane with randoms...
how do you do it?
see, i was thinking about it, and every time i travel- by myself especially, all i wanna do is hang out with randoms and get drunk etc, but it never seems to happen. instead i get weird side glances from the stiffs in suits.
there needs to be some sort of thing, you know, something that lets other travelers know you wanna have fun...sorta like back in the day, there used to be a supermarket in auckland who had a system- when you walked in and put bananas in your trolley you were looking for some, if they pointed up you were straight, pointing down, gay, and sideways, well you get the point
wouldnt it be cool if there was designated seating in the plane for it- front, families and kids, middle old people and boring people, at the back- everyone up to socialise, drink and have fun?!
or is it just wishful thinking?

I have the same problem, I usually find nice people to chat to but they never seem as intent on getting drunk as I do. C'mon people it's free!
I use the phones in the back of the seats to call people around me that look cool. Good to break the ice.
But yeah the party plane idea is definitely a winner. If you need a business partner I can help you make it happen.

being on a flight is a strange thing - most people don't even want to sit besides anyone for countless hours let alone get drunk.. but hey, I'm up for it! Air france is great for free booze, on my way to shanghia last tear I had 2 cans of beer and 2 whiskeys in an hour.. all free and thei air hostess asked me if i wanted more!

If my bananas pointing up, it usually means something...
I've had some good conversations, with or without the drinks, on long flights. I always hope that when I'm flying into a new country, I'll get to know the person (a local) sitting next to me, get invited to stay with them, or go party with them, whatever...
The closest I've had to that was meeting a local on the bus *from* the airport, in El Salvador. That led to drinks, partying with their friends that night, and so on...
Tell you want, Mermaid: Come to the U.S. and we'll make sure you've got plenty of new friends to party with...

I think it´s a good idea! Maybe if those microjets ever get popular they could put kegs on certain flights!

I think it's wishful thinking...it all depends on who they throw you beside and they tend not to be cool IMO (nice, just not fun)

I've had a fun time on Greyhound in the mid-west. Lots of joints smoked and small bottles of whiskey shared with randoms. I never seem to drink on a plane though - - all the airlines I've been on charge for alcohol and I'm not one to pay an arm and leg for it.

I'm a fairly confident person, so on my way to the toilets, I would scout for people who look like they'd be up for it, given there's an empty seat I'd say "This is kind of random, but are you bored? I feel like taking advantage of the free drinks, did you wanna get drunk with me?". If you were nervous about approaching someone, maybe flash a smile and gauge the reaction you get. Most people on planes are in the socialising mindset as they are amped for their holiday or just coming back from one and would have already met randoms, so just go for it... what do you have to lose?? Seize the day!

Excuse the ignorance, but I had no idea you could use the phones on the plane for that! How do you dial a particular seat? Haha I can just see myself getting mightily trashed on a plane then using the phone to make prank calls to my fellow passengers hehe.

What airline gives out all these free drinks? I've only been on flights where you pay 8 bucks for a small bottle. Drinking on a flight just doesn't seem appealing. I just want the flight to be over cuz its so freakin booring. It seems like it would make the flight drag on. Put me up there with the stuffy suits.

I know you can using the phones in the back of the seats on Emirates. You just enter the seat number you want to call. Not sure about other airlines.

This could just be from an Australian perspective since flying anywhere international is going to be a long flight, but I always get free drinks.

Yeah i only get free drinks on long haul flights. There are so many cuts now days that flying within north america gets ya nothing! I never sit next to anyone cool. On my last major flight I sat next to a missionary who wasn't that impressed when I told her I was an atheist. Needless to say this was at the beginning of the flight and she stopped talking to me.

I don't think you sit there and do nothing on the flight BECAUSE it's boring...
you sit there on the flight and do nothing and THEREFORE it's boring.
I totally agree that flights are boring as hell, that's why some of the more fun flights I remember taking involve doing a lot of talking with a cool person sitting nearby. And yes, heavy drinking was involved the majority of these times as well

I don't remember any free drinks on Quantas in 2005 Maybe they just assume you know, and I assumed you didn't get them!
You do get free booze in Business/First Class though.

Well American Airlines doesn't, thats for sure. At least on south america routes, but then again those flights aren't particularly long to most countries...maybe on transoceanic flights they do.
