Default New Year's Resolutions

So anyone else afraid that they can't hold up their own promises to themselves this year? So, as silly as this sounds, I'm going to state my New Year's resolutions, and that way I have to stick with them now that its public.

- I will eat responsibly, not necessarily a "diet," but the munchies are my downfall and I will no longer allow them to destroy my health and kitchen.

my new years resolution is to stop saying "you go girl!" to myself.

jk. thats a zach galifianakis bit.

i dont really make new years resoultions, but if i did, it would be to get back in shape, lose 10 pounds and get out of the states at least 3 times this year.

my goal this year, since I will be going back to school in the fall, is to understand the concept of want vs. need. I have difficulties with this. And being on the premed track it's going to go a lot like this: well I WANT to go out and drink beer but I NEED to study o-chem. which sounds kind of depressing right now, but it will be good for me. I had problems with this the first time I went to college... I just wanted to have fun, I was in a sorority, all that good stuff. I think it will be easier in Columbus (despite the fact that all my sorority sisters that graduated now live in cbus haha) because I've grown up since I was a freshman in college, and I've got my mind right about this workload. so that's my goal for 2008.

My new year's resolution is to start acting like I am 33. I also need to start eating right and go to the gym (I'm joining tomorrow).

Most improtantly I need to let go of my grudges. I hold to many and let them motivate me. I need another sort of motivation.

I don't make resolutions per se, but I always say I'll TRY and do something. That way, if I don't stick to it, it's not as if I've broken any promises.

So, with that in mind, I will TRY and eat healthy and maybe go running a little bit. After all my Christmas chocolate is finished, that is.

I read an article the other day about resolutions, and how the more specific they are the more likely you'll do it. So instead of "get in shape" it was saying to do something like "train for and run a 10k in May" because you know what you need to do to accomplish your goal.

It inspired me to set a bunch of goals that were nice and specific...one of them for me was to pay 90% of this student loan I still have, so I could do a RTW trip next year without having to deal with payments the whole time...

I also resolved to finish organizing my Peru photos. That trip was last May, I tend to procrastinate

I dont really make resolutions...I dont believe in only doing things to better myself once a year, whenever I get an idea I act on it...and then we see how long the drive lasts.

But I suppose if I were to make a resolution for this year it would be to stick to my budget for africa no matter what...and to stay safe.

Past (successful) resolutions were:
Drink just one can of pop (oops, sorry, soda) per day
stop cussing in the car (at other drivers)
run 4 miles every other day
cut out potato chips from my diet and buy pretzels, etc, instead

I need to get better on the first one...I've done some backsliding and am drinking more Dr. Pepper now than I have the past few years.

Thank you Nicole. I too refuse to bow down to the east coasters & say soda (or the folks in the south who refer to any carbonated beverage as Coke).

Yeah, I think thats called the "SMART" approach which stands for Specific-Measurable-Something that starts with A, maybe Attainable-Realistic-Timely.

That actually does work a lot better I've noticed. For instance, by the end of 2008, I want to have run 1,000 miles.

dude, love your title. Recognized.

Yeah I try not to set physical goals, I've realized over the years that I am an active person, where I live dictates how active I am. As long as I am in Phoenix, I will more than likely be out of shape, when I move somewhere else though I drop weight like crazy. Phoenix is my bane.

Good luck to all ya'll runners out there!

Pop is a variety of music or the sound a balloon makes when pricked with a pin. It is NOT something you drink. All you midwestern farmers need to learn to speak proper American english! Let's face it, us East Coasters are the real power in this country....you need to listen to us.

Mike - you should think about nuts or something protein based. The health benefit in switching from chips to pretzels isn't worth the reduction in taste!

As for swearing in the car....that is stress relief, you can't ditch that. Particularly in Ohio, there are a lot of bad drivers on the roads here!

edited to add: I just realized upon a second read that those were past resolutions...oh well.

well it's better than referring to all pop as "COKE". coke is not pepsi, coke is not sprite, coke is coke is coke, a specific brand of POP.

meanwhile, soda is carbonated water without any flavoring.

us midwestern farmers. HA! better not say that too loud now that you live in midwestern "farmer" land! someone might get you with their pitch fork!

hahahah okay allrighty mr. funnypants, that's quite okay. Ohio has great roads (you can tell just by listening when you've crossed the border into any one bordering state... ESPECIALLY michigan...) and Ohio's drivers are quite okay actually... take a drive in Chicagoland... there's some bad drivers.

besides, give us midwestern farmers a break! it was a hard adjustment to go from the tractor to the car... some still haven't made the switchover!

You are correct, it is indeed "attainable"... we have to use that all the time when writing up care plans for patients... the goals must be SMART. Ugh.

Also, none of this pop, soda, or coke malarky. It is simply called A Fizzy Drink!!!

Haha... "Pop" is no more correct than "Coke." If I don't say soda (which is correct usage), I say "a coke or something," meaning a coca cola or something else.
