Default Moving is hard work!

Well I've been a bit absent from the boards lately...I apologize and I miss you guys!

We finally moved into our own place at the beginning of December. It's been so hectic because we had stuff we had to move from my Mom's house, Dad's house, my Grandma's house, his parents house, the DR and the place we were currently living. It took awhile, but I think we pretty much have everything in there now...NOW is the time to unpack and organize.

The internet is still not connected. We have our cable and telephone though, so that's a plus. We LOVE our new place and are so much happier with no roommates to deal with. Once we get it all put together, I will post some pictures.

Within the next week or so, we should be online, so hope you don't miss me too much while I'm away!

moving can be a pain in the ass, but once you're all unpacked and settled and have found a place for everything and can just sit back and chillax, that's the best feeling which makes the whole process worth it!

Mike can back me up on this...I bought my house almost 10 years ago. There are still boxes that I haven't unpacked

I finally put drapery on the living room windows though!!! (a month ago) I also have blinds, so the windows weren't completely naked. I'm even putting artwork on the walls - Woo Hoo!

I certainly hope you're better than I am at these things Brooke.

Good luck and enjoy settling in! I almost wish I had a place to unpack into permanently instead of having to move everything I own every three months or so. I'm currently in the throes of moving out (again) and that's a pain in the ass too!

All the hassle will be worth it once you're all settled in and enjoying spending quality time together with no one else to hassle you!

But thanks to a recent Vancouver trip, you now have less stuff to move -

My grandparents are the same way. They either threaten us that the boxes upon boxes in their basement are our inheritance, or on holidays (Xmas, bdays) they joke and tell us to "go downstairs and pick any box you like!"

I'm glad you're in your new place, though, Brooke! It's such a pain, but you're in the clear now - the good part of a new place where you make it your own (and get some internet...!).

i kind of enjoy moving. for me, i dont have that much stuff to begin with and moving is always a chance to just throw away stuff that i dont ever use or will ever need, unless it has some sentimental value. i kinda inherited some packrat habits from my dad so its great to have a reason to throw out a bunch of the junk that just collects.

I got rid of a third of my stuff when I went crazy back in August of 2006. I'm so glad I did. For New Year's I'm going to get rid of a lot more stuff and after I finish my novel I am going to get rid of half of my books. Now I just buy backpacking stuff, Deaf history and studies books, and once in a great while some clothes. I do need a new suit and sports coat.

man I wish I didn't have very much stuff. I'm such a pack rat. I save EVERYTHING. I hold on to things forever. I'm a neat freak, but a pack ratty neat freak if people like that even exist.

I need a U-Haul just to move out of my little 8x8 room over here! I've already mailed 2 boxes home so I don't break my back carrying shit like when I came here. I couldn't even stand up with all that shit. I can't put anything of value in the containers that go home by boat cos those always get robbed in Pakistan. (My tough box of shit that came over in the container had the locks broken, but nothing got stolen. I see that no one wanted my pillow and fleece blanket and all my books and Tazo tea... their loss).

I've been procrastinating this moving business for weeks now. I'm coming home in less that 6 weeks and my stuff is a wreck.

Oh, harsh memories.

Too bad I did a good job of replacing (and adding to) everything that got stolen though!

I've moved a lot all my life so I'm pretty good at getting rid of stuff but I still end up saving everything in between. my plan of attack for this move is to write a list of the things I'll need to take with me, pack up that stuff, and anything that's left will either get thrown out or taken to my parents house. so far my list is:
summer clothes (can bring winter stuff from parents house when needed)
shoes that I wear (I have a lot that I don't wear)
reference books (no novels)
art supplies & fabric
computer
sewing machines
stereo
iron & ironing board.

if i stick with this, I'll be so cool and minimalist in my new place! pity the nature of my course means that I churn out big bulky assignments almost weekly that are useless and take up space but I won't throw out because I work so hard on them. anyway. I don't really know why you all needed to know all this but whatever

I've moved so many times in my life that it no longer brings that whole dread thing - though I still hate moving, I look forward to my new digs!

I've definitely began reducing my possessions to stuff I think is actually important, but it's amazing how much stuff that actually is - Not counting furniture, I think I still have more than a U-haul worth.
