First Time Confused Indian Backpacker
Hi,
Im 24 and am from India. I am planning on my first backpack trip ever! God, this is confusing - so many options - South America, Eastern Europe, Western Europe. What would you guys suggest? I intend to go away for about 60 days in March 2009.
Also, this question might be out of place but are there many indian backpackers? Have any of you travelled with any?

First, welcome to the boards!
I haven't met many backpackers from India and I think almost all of them were via another country anyway like born in India, relocated to the west, and now backpacking).

Welcome, and like Joey said, I've met an Indian born CouchSurfer, but he was working and living in the UK. Good luck with your plans. It really is tough to narrow down one area to visit. Some people take a couple years and just do it all at once. Others take a month and focus on one region. What do you really want to see the most?

I thought I would throw out there if you are thinking that you will stick out and get a lot of stares you probably won't. Most of Europe has a huge Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi community...especially the larger cities.

Welcome to the boards! Yeah, I've met Indian backpackers before, but mostly its Canadians or Americans whose parents were from India. Indian girls from England are basically the hottest girls ever =)
Anyway, for your first trip, I would recommend Western Europe, as it is the classic "first time" place. Depends on what your budget is too...

So far
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback u guys. Im glad I found this forum. I started off my business when I was 19, took my company public only to get it bankrupt at 24! Figured that there was more to life than making money. Taking off for a year and a half before going back to school. Thought I'd take up one off consulting jobs interspersed with backpacking trips.
I have traveled to Toronto, Dubai, Singapore and Australia on vacations
Also did a couple of trips for the Habitat for Humanity
LA - Jimmy Carter Work Project 2007
Romania - Pitesti, Brasov and Bucharest.
Romania was fun - with a difference. Did not see a single Indian / Pakistani Origin the entire two weeks of my stay. I did get a few stares though Felt kinda NICE Anyways, a lotta people thought that I was spanish for some strange reason.
I did think of Western Europe , but I figure thats gonna happen sometime in life. Any additions here would help.
I was thinking of clubbing Carnaval, A Habitat Trip and Peru in Feb 2009-March 2009
If not, its going to be Europe (East / West) in March 2009. Again, not sure about the list of countries.
Guess I've taken the long route - Let me answer your question : I wanna travel for the exact same reason as most other people here. To break free, meet people, find my inner self and have a blast.
