Ha - I had a lot of reading to do as well (haven't logged on in a bit).

I was about to get riled up about the baptism thing - yes, huge difference between Catholicism and "Christianity" (though obv. Catholics are Christians...we just identify using a different/specific term - no point in arguing over it when most people get the point, though I've been confronted by some aggressive people in a certain denomination - won't name names - who see the labels as a way to say that they are true Christians, and Catholicism is just a hobby or whatever). It's a commitment by the parents to raise you in a Catholic moral system. You get a chance to own your faith system with confirmation (for me, at 14ish).

Like all major religions, my one wish for Catholicism is that it will recognize that we're in the 21st century and modernize. You can't quote the Bible for truth politically and then ignore the ludicrous passages, not with a modern audience. Not for me, anyways. I want something that speaks to me as a young person in 2007. And I don't think I have an answer for that. I used to tell my mom that any religion not created by a half-Black half-Cuban lesbian poet in the last 20 years would not be the religion for me.

I wish the Vatican, and other Christian groups would stop with the selective literalism when it comes to the bible. you can't reinterpret and modernize some parts and take other parts literally. Its probably the thing that bothers me the most.
